Firepits available for hire

  • Cosy family-run and dog-friendly site in the Cotswolds
  • A 15-minute drive from Blenheim Palace; 25 minutes to Stow-on-the-Wold
  • Barbecues and firepits allowed; access to footpaths and bridleways
After a cosy spot somewhere in the Cotswolds? Historic houses, museums and market towns are out in full force around the cosy Cotswolds Camping in its Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty six miles from Chipping Norton… to be exact, this family-run site is 15 minutes' drive away from Blenheim Palace and within striking distance of many characteristic Cotswolds trails. At the same time, Oxfordshire is the other way and Oxford itself is just 15 minutes’ train journey away from Charlbury Station (five minutes’ drive). As for those of you with a soft spot for a hardcore shopping trip, you won’t be left in the lurch here, as Bicester Village has a shopping outlet 35 minutes’ drive away and Stratford-upon-Avon is 45 minutes’ drive away for handsome riverside scenes and independent shops. Now, how about those hiking shoes? Well, the site has access to fancy footpaths, bridleways and woodland walks, so you’ll be able to get right to the rambling. You might want to stop by the local village, Charlbury, on your way around the local area, as there are food shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants here, all within walking distance of the site. And don’t worry, you’ll be able to carry the good time onto the site, as barbecues and firepits are both permitted – the same for dogs. As for the facilities you’ll have on hand, these include a play area, shower, toilets and a dishwashing area to help you deal with any dirty pots and pans.

What customers say

A lovely, well-kept site in the beautiful Cotswolds, perfect for families and dogs. Guests love the clean facilities, ample pitches & cafe. Woodland play area a hit! Some minor queues & noise during busy times, and occasional toilet paper/hot water issues. Highly recommended, many will return.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Nothing

Disliked We messaged to say our motorhome had failed its MOT so unfortunately wouldn’t make it. We understand the no cancellation within 12 weeks policy but they didn’t even acknowledge receipt of the message.
I had asked if it was possible to rearrange rather than cancel.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Really large site with plenty of space and lots of facilities. Didn’t feel large as segregated into lots of camping fields.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Nice location for what we wanted to do while in the area ,site looked clean .

Disliked No camping etiquette, the group next to us had a MH 3 tents a gazebo and 4 cars all just parked wherever so no boundaries, they had 2 big dogs off the lead barking into the night ,it just wasn't relaxing with all the noise and worrying about our little dog we did go to reception but no one there at one point I had to ask them to pick up their dog poo from the side of our camper van .

Electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked The staff were welcoming and helpful.

The onsite bar/cafe was a fun place to be especially with the live music.

The facilities were clean and never too busy.

The site allows campfires which is really nice in the late summer as nights become colder.

I was pitched close to the playground which was great as it just me and my 8yr old son (meant he could go play and I could keep an eye on him from my tent).

The site is conveniently located between two villages walking distance away (15 and 30min walk).

Upon leaving the campsite at the end of our stay my son asked if we could go back next year (which he hasn't asked at other sites).

Disliked Nothing really to dislike about the site- I suppose the playground area could with a little maintenance and updating but that's about it.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Had a nice welcome. Site was generally quiet at night. Entertainment looked interesting.

Disliked Way too many children and therefore toilets & showers were grubby at times. Was expensive for 2 adults, but probably good value for a family with a few children.

Electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked Great location close to Oxford, local village and Blenheim. Lovely views. Friendly welcome.

Disliked The pitches were sloping and massively overcrowded. The site had been overbooked so more pitches had been created where they shouldn't have been. As a result it felt like Glastonbury with queues for woefully inadequate toilets and showers which were best avoided and tightly packed tents and high noise levels late in the evening and early in the morning. Staff were clearly stressed and let it show.

From the manager: Thanks for your review , we do have a complete mix of pitch types at the campsite. When booking you can always request a flat, shaded , sunny, corner or quiet pitch in the notes section and we will always try to accommodate those requests. This august was the busiest weekend in the campsites entire existence, we were overbooked by four pitches so we had to create a few extra pitches to accommodate familes instead of cancelling their holidays. We’ve also noticed that lot of customers are bringing more than one vehicle per pitch, so when we close this season we are creating a dedicated car park. We also hand out a welcome sheet which advises customers to park their vehicles in their pitch, unfortunately some customers chose to not follow this advice . We’re also adding 6 extra toilets and five showers. We’re always seeking to improve the camping experience for our customers so welcome you to try us again next year.

Local attractions

Trail time? You might want to begin with the Roman Fosse Way, passing by the towns of Stow-on-the-Wold (25 minutes' drive) and Moreton-in-Marsh (25 minutes). Or from Lechlade-on-Thames (half an hour), perhaps you'll roll right on to the Thames Path, if you’re not drawn into the water with watersports such as canoeing. Characterful towns and villages are a Cotswolds staple and it shows… Burford (15 minutes) is boxed full of unusual shops, pubs and tea rooms, while in Witney (20 minutes), you’ve got classic entertainment courtesy of a multi-screen cinema, shops and leisure centre mixed in with markets and the historic Cogges Manor Farm. In Woodstock (15 minutes) there’s more history inside The Oxfordshire Museum. Like Chipping Norton (10 minutes), the place has a swimming pool, shops, pubs and tea rooms galore, to add to Chipping Norton’s theatre and cinema. Historic are many of the houses around here, and that includes the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Blenheim Palace (15 minutes), the Jacobean Chastleton House (20 minutes) and or the 18th-century Buscot Park (35 minutes). For more activities in the throw of it all, there’s Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens (25 minutes) and Bourton-on-the-Water’s equestrian centre, brewery and motoring museum (half an hour).
