  • Secluded bell tents at a Herefordshire family smallholding
  • A 10-minute drive from Ross-on-Wye and close to Forest of Dean
  • Feed the animals, collect eggs and build dens in the woods
Head down a Herefordshire country lane, cross a little stable yard and you’ll meet lovely Lilly and Billy, the emperor bell tents living in their own one-acre paddock at Little Bull Hill. Easily accessed from the M50 and a 10-minute drive from Ross-on-Wye, this spot makes a fab base for days out exploring the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley. Much of what you’ll need is provided here, so you should be able to settle in with minimal fuss. Bedding is all sorted, and there’s lots of helpful kit in the stable yard kitchen to help prep meals (which you might like to cook over the firepit, perhaps?). Guests also have access to a toilet and a shower with oodles of hot water, plus a fridge freezer, firewood and laundry facilities on request. All of this is set up in a very private pitch so you’ll be able to enjoy the peace at your leisure. As for getting out and about, it’s all about the outdoor activities: wild swimming, riding, canoeing and mountain biking are all popular picks around here (and there’s bike storage and a wash-down area on site to help with this last one). Friendly owner Emma is on hand to point you in the direction of good places to go, and she’s happy for kids to build dens in the woods or get stuck in with helping to feed the smallholding’s animals (ponies, horses and chickens) or collect eggs from the free-roaming chickens.

Lilly bell tent

Liked: We visited as a family with young children. To give them some fresh air , get back to basics and spend some quality time as a family. Comfy beds, lovely size tent. We didn’t feel the need to leave the site as the children were happy playing grass games and painting a pony. Not much to walk to locally, would need to drive if left site for the shops, pub etc. Host on hand if needed.

Lilly bell tent

Liked: Wonderful long weekend spent at Little Bull Hill. Highly recommend. Each tent has its own outside table with camping kitchen. Outside area with seating, fire-pit and grill. Access to a shared kitchen with everything you need. Lovely shower and toilet facilities, spotlessly clean. Emma is a warm and welcoming host. We would definitely visit again. The kids (9 and 11) loved the location and horses. Great value for money. Thank you.

Billy bell tent

Liked: Comfy beds, dog friendly, wonderful hosts. Emma was so welcoming and has thought of everything! The facilities exceeded our expectations. The shower was amazing and the kitchen had everything you need and more! Our daughter loved helping to wash, brush and feed the ponies, and even decorated one! I’d highly recommend Little Bull Hill to any family looking for a break away from everyday life. There are supermarkets close by where you can pick up food to cook over the fire, and we had a great time canoeing on the river wye. The Cotswolds are fairly close by too. We took Emma’s advice and visited Stow on the Wold which is a lovely little town. All in all a great place to stay - 5*!!!

Billy bell tent

Liked: Loved everything about it here, it had everything we needed. The owner was so lovely and welcoming. The kitchen and toilet facilities were really good and were spotless. Dogs were welcomed. The tent itself was beautiful and immaculate. The area was beautiful, lots of lovely walks around there.

Disliked: We took out 2 dogs and the gate wasn't secure enough to let them off the long lead
