Little Bull Hill: The campsite

General

  • Secluded bell tent at a Herefordshire family smallholding
  • A 10-minute drive from Ross-on-Wye and close to Forest of Dean
  • Feed the animals, collect eggs and build dens in the woods

Head down a Herefordshire country lane, cross a little stable yard and you’ll meet lovely Lilly, a bell tent living in her own one-acre paddock at Little Bull Hill. Easily accessed from the M50 and a 10-minute drive from Ross-on-Wye, she makes a fab base for days out exploring the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley.

Much of what you’ll need is provided here, so you should be able to settle in with minimal fuss. Bedding is all sorted, and there’s lots of helpful kit in the stable yard kitchen to help prep meals (which you might like to cook over the firepit, perhaps?). Guests also have access to a toilet and a shower with oodles of hot water, plus a fridge freezer, firewood and laundry facilities on request. All of this is set up in a very private pitch so you’ll be able to enjoy the peace at your leisure.

As for getting out and about, it’s all about the outdoor activities: wild swimming, riding, canoeing and mountain biking are all popular picks around here (and there’s bike storage and a wash-down area on site to help with this last one).

Friendly owner Emma is on hand to point you in the direction of good places to go, and she’s happy for kids to build dens in the woods or get stuck in with helping to feed the smallholding’s animals (ponies, horses and chickens) or collect eggs from the free-roaming chickens.

Please note

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

No electric barbecues allowed.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

There is no reception on-site: on arrival please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

No gas barbecues allowed.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Really spacious and private. All the facilities were well equipped, clean and stylish. The host Emma was fantastic, has thought of everything for a comfortable, hassle-free stay. We loved saying hello to the horses very time we went to and from the kitchen and our little girl loved collecting eggs from the hens and then having scrambled eggs for breakfast. A real hidden gem! Surpassed expectations.

Fantastic two days away. Pitch was fantastic with a whole field, fire pit, seating area and lovely tent. Facilities are great, along with the host Emma. We will hopefully be back next year with the rest of the young family. Ideal for both.

The yurt is so cosy, so much room for us and our dog, we loved it. Very peaceful location and perfect for couples and families! The area is beautifully kept with everything you need and more on site! The bathroom was exceptionally clean and spacious and so was the kitchen area. Emma is such a lovely host, very warm and welcoming and we will defiantly be staying again.

Everything. Our stay was perfect. Emma is a brilliant host and has thought of everything. She gave us so much time and spent so long with my five year old talking about horses. We loved meeting (and feeding and painting) the horses, looking after the chickens and collecting eggs, campfires, pizza making and of course the beautiful tent. It was a truly relaxing weekend, even with a five year old and one year old. We highly recommend it and can’t wait to return. Thank you so much, Emma.

The place is very clean and the toilet and shower are clean. Kitchen is equipped with necessary equipment for glamping. The place is quiet and you can enjoy the scenery of the farm. The paint a pony and rent a chicken with eggs are really good and enjoyed bu our child. Privacy as your on your own. The most important and top notch is Emma the owner was very accommodating, helpful and making as fell that we own the place for a night to enjoy. We definitely recommend the place to everyone.
