Tavistock, Devon, England
Super FHU gravel campsite
Liked The peace and quiet, spacious pitches and surroundings.
We had some lovely walks, but otherwise you have to drive e.g Tavistock is too far to walk.
Disliked The WiFi was terrible on our pitch and when we did get WiFi it was extremely slow.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite
Liked We arrived on a very dark wet night in November. The host kindly spent time giving details of where to find things.
We parked up, were the only ones there and were allowed to park on the gravel as it was so wet.
Had a very peaceful night.
In the morning we could see the orchard and camping field. The orchard must be really pretty in spring.

Primitive grass campsite
Liked The large field secure number pad entry.
Good views and quiet, short walk to the village with a good local takeout.
Friendly staff.
We tried to book a pitch with electrics, which came up as fully booked but there appeared to be a space every day we were there. Not that it mattered in the end.
Could do with another toilet block as we had to wait once or twice and the site possibly wasn’t at its busiest.
Overall we loved it and would stay again.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear enjoyed your stay. In relation to the electric pitch, as so often is the case in life, sometimes things can appear one way but actually are a little different when other information you may not be aware of is available. The Electric Pitch in question was booked and utilised on the first night of the booking. It was then vacated during the booking, however the booking was still active. This being the case there would not have been any availability displayed. We hope now you have access to this information it provides clarity. We look forward to your next stay.

Powered grass campsite (large)
Liked Like the different paddocks. Spacious pitches.
Disliked We could not get a good WiFi signal.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are glad that you liked the site. WiFi is not something that we currently offer. On a rural campsite with several paddocks, it would be difficult to maintain a good level of service, and we hope that people come to us to switch off. We do hope that you will visit us again in the future. Kind regards The Blackland Team

Liked The proximity to Porthleven which is an easy walk.
Disliked The pitches are quite close together which was ok at the time of year we were there. In the summer I imagine it would be a bit cramped.

Liked Lovely friendly welcome. Spacious pitches all beautifully kept. Our pitch was towards the back of the campsite away from the road, so the road noise did not bother us. Good walks from the campsite once off the main road.

Liked The walks from the campsite and the surrounding countryside. The large grassy space as it was not busy when we were there.
Disliked The unfriendly welcome we were given bordering on rude. If you have a motorhome ensure you have a bucket or container to transport your grey waste water to the emptying station as it is not accessible by vehicle. The constant daytime noise of traffic on the road next to the campsite. Thankfully it quietened down at night. There is only glass recycling on site.

From the manager: Quite an amazing review with most of the facts left out here…! Both ourselves and Pitchup have a legitimate expectation that when you book a “CAMPERVAN PITCH” you don’t turn up in a large motorhome! We don’t actually take motorhome bookings through Pitchup. Perhaps my perceived “bordering on rude” greeting was more an ill disguised “not another numpty booking a campervan pitch turning up in a motorhome kind of look”. I also remember pointing out quite clearly that “the Pitchup booking site states that there are no motorhome service points”. So why whinge about something you weren’t sold in the first instance? So perhaps you could resist in future blaming a site for your own mistakes and lack of reading skills? Despite your little faux pas, we provided you with a hard standing pitch and then offered you a grass pitch (which you took) that would accommodate your motorhome…how rude of me was that? Kindest regards from the once again grumpy site manager
