  • Well-maintained pitches five minutes’ walk from Porthleven, Cornwall
  • A 10-minute drive to Helston Railway; 15 minutes to Marazion
  • On-site pub; five minutes’ walk to the beach and South West Coast Path
A family-run touring caravan and campsite located about 500 meters from the centre of the historic fishing village of Porthleven, Mill Lane Campsite is a dog-friendly spot with generous-sized, level pitches and plenty of space for all the family. The campsite is a five-minute walk from Porthleven beach, famous as one of Cornwall’s best reef breaks (are you listening, surfers?). It’s also five minutes to the South West Coast Path, making this a great base for long-distance hikers too. Porthleven village hosts the award-winning Food Festival in July, but you can eat in quirky cafes, traditional pubs or fine-dining restaurants – all serving fresh, seasonal food – any time of year. Pick up foodie supplies in the local shops – including delicious Cornish pasties – and there’s a handy supermarket too. And there’s no need to fret about keeping everyone entertained in the evenings. The on-site free house sells the world-famous Cornish ale Spingo, brewed in Helston (10 minutes’ drive), so adults are never far away from a refreshment. For the kids, there’s a pool table in the pub, as well as sport on the big screen and live music throughout the year. Bingo fans can play every Friday evening at 7pm with cash prizes.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Large flat pitches.
Quiet site with no noise late at night or early in the mornings.
Showers and toilets were functioning and clean enough.
Good washing up facilities.

Excellent location - walking distance from Porthleven, which is a gorgeous little Cornish town and close road access to lots of other beautiful parts of Cornwall!

Disliked Staff in 'Out of the Blue' were not very friendly and it put us off utilising the pub.

Powered grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Excellent location for walking into Porthleven or for catching the bus to Helston or Penzance (via Marazion for St Michaels Mt). Porthleven is a bustling tourist spot in all the right ways; great food, nice shops and enjoyed watching everyone enjoying swimming in harbour.
Campsite is well laid out and the showers were fabulous. Pub/bar at entrance to campsite is great value.

Disliked We were in the bottom field which is right next to the main road into Porthleven so some traffic noise. Not a huge problem though.
10am vacate pitch time feels a bit early compared to other sites.

Powered grass tent or RV campsite

Liked The proximity to Portleven. The facilities were clean.
The water stations, bins and washing up facilities were well located around the site.
The WiFi worked well.
The non electric inner camping area looked nice.

Disliked The pitches were not good for tents as they were shared with campervans so damaged and full of lumps and holes. Stones had been put in the holes so made it harder to pitch around the stones which could damage the underside of a tent as well as being uncomfortable. There were large lights around the sight and adjacent to the pitches, not good for tents as you can’t shut it out overnight. The lower field backs into a busy road too.
It was a “quiet site’ apart from the loud music from the social club opposite until midnight on the Saturday. We didn’t see the owners the entire week, no introduction or information about anything.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked The location was perfect and central to explore the area. Pitches are big and mainly flat. It was quiet but we were lucky with the families around us so this is only a snap shot in time. Site was clean and tidy and maintained. There is a Pub on site, we didn’t go in but advertised Bingo and a meat raffle. Only a 5 min work to the harbour which had some lovely independent shops, bars and a supermarket. We noticed bus stops that went to either Penzance or Helston. WiFi was good and constant.

Disliked The entrance to the site is so tight! Getting out was even worse. An attempt to stop people parking near the entrance was made with a couple of cones but were useless. Expect to have to dodge gates, brick walls, bushes through a very narrow gap with limited view. It honestly was a heart in mouth moment and obviously others felt the same given the comments we got trying to get our truck and van through this. The campsite is the garden of the pub so you either have houses overlooking you or public parking the other side. The site is clean but after a week it would have been nice to see the cob webs cleaned up in the toilets and overall the facilities could do with a fresh coat of paint. Also I requested at the time of booking to be near the toilets, I was assured that we would be prior to arriving but instead we were almost at the very end so I had an embarrassing walk to and fro with medical equipment. Also don’t expect a warm welcome, we didn’t see anyone the entire time we were there and our neighbours said they attempted to book in but was met with a “grumpy old man”. I would not recommend the site for families with younger children as there are no facilities such as a play park or open area for them to play. Our van kept tripping the electrics so we had a caravan maintenance guy come out as we thought we had a problem with our van but he said that the wattage on the site was lower than other sites so we had to be mindful of how much power we pulled, so not mini heater in the awning with the kettle going!

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Lovely quiet, clean site within walking distance of Porth Levan. It’s a central site for visiting some lovely Cornish beaches such as Kynance Cove and Praa Sands.

Disliked The bar onsite looked lovely and sounded fun but we ventured in there on a Sunday night and the barman wasn’t very welcoming or friendly.

Local attractions

If you’re keen to get out on the water, Porthleven beach (five minutes’ walk) is a fantastic surfing spot, and you can take coastal cruises (try one at dusk for spectacular sunset views) or sea-fishing trips from Porthleven harbour (10 minutes). Meanwhile, at Marazion (15 minutes’ drive) it’s a short hop across the bay to the crag-top castle and gardens at Mount St Michael. Also nearby you could take a ride on the vintage trains of Helston Railway (10 minutes), or splash in the sea at sheltered Gunwalloe Church Cove Beach (20 minutes). There are plenty of family-friendly hikes along the Lizard Heritage Coast (both 20 minutes) and lots of seabirds to spot along the way. And there’s masses of art and culture in these parts too; the galleries and museums of St Ives (30 minutes) warrant a day’s attention, and there are rare plants and wacky artworks to be seen in Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens (20 minutes).
