  • Quiet rural Herefordshire site near the River Wye
  • A 15-minute drive from Hay-on-Wye and the Offa’s Dyke Path
  • Walking trails nearby; five minutes' drive from a farm shop
Sling a trusty bag over your shoulder, grab some sturdy shoes and round up your co-adventurers, as walking trails, mountains and market towns are on the cards from Letton Campground. Close to the River Wye and surrounded by the quiet Herefordshire countryside, this site is well-based for diving into the Wye Valley scenery. A literary plunge is more the tune in Hay-on-Wye (15 minutes’ drive away) – but as well as having famed bookshops and great places to eat, there are also canoes and paddleboards for hire. Back on drier land, national trails crisscross this part of the countryside: the Wye Valley Walk is five minutes’ drive away and the Offa’s Dyke Path is 15 minutes’ drive away. As you'd expect from this setting, the views are pretty splendid (think hills and open farmland with the River Wye running nearby). The site has immediate access to the road going between Hereford and Brecon, so as well as being in a relaxing spot, you’ll be well-connected to other destinations – and a farm shop is five minutes’ drive away if you’re looking for some fresh produce to eat.

What customers say

This cozy, peaceful site gets kudos for a warm welcome and spotless amenities, including private shower stalls. Spacious, level pitches with hookups are the norm. An honesty shop's a hit! While some found shower temps/pressure inconsistent, recent reviews cite improvements. A new fence tackles past dog issues. The pub's a draw, though hours vary. Great base for exploring.

Powered cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked Level pitches, water and electricity at every pitch, lovely clean showers and toilets, all within a very short walk to the pub.
A small site shop with basic essentials paying via the honesty box.
Pub food was good, not too much to choose from but can understand why with the place being remote.
We had the pizza and I have to say it was lovely and a good size too, the smashed burgers looked lovely too.
Beer was well kept and a reasonable selection, with a good spirits and ciders selection too.
No alcohol options also available.
Dog friendly too.
Staff were welcoming and polite too.
Very peaceful we both had two cracking nights sleep.
Also a sluice area to empty your toilet is available but no grey water disposal for you to empty your on-board waste tank.

Disliked Unfortunately no dog walk/exercise area and it's quite a busy road without a pathway to walk.

Liked We stayed in our Motorhome at the Letton Campground at the Swan Inn... and what a beautiful place it is! We can see a lot of care an attention has gone into everything...From the well thought out welcome message, to the spotless toilets and spacious showers, to the 'honesty shop' and facilities on site. The grounds are well laid out with lots of space to stretch out. You can hear the birds singing in the morning and read a quiet book on the benches provided. If you want a safe, comfortable and peaceful break away close to shops (but far enough to feel like you are in your own little haven). This is the spot! We will be back :)

Liked Really good little site, not too much noise from the pub. Gravel hardstanding for 4 pitches, we were out at the far end of the site and had some grass available under the trees. Considering the sun and heat it was a nice part of the site.

3 Separate 'bathrooms' with shower, toilet, and wash basin, all very clean and well kept. Nice little honesty shop with some general things to help with the stay within the pot wash area.

We were greeted and shown to the pitch and everything well explained.

We didn't sample the food at the connected pub but the menu looked ok.

We stayed while visiting Hay on Wye which is only a few miles down the road but meant we were able to leave the area easily and head back in the following day avoiding the very busy Hay festival when we wanted to.

Disliked The sign to the back of the pub and the pitch area from the road could have been bigger and more clear, but the fact its linked to the Swan Inn meant we knew where it was so its not a massive thing and could be local restrictions.

Liked Roomy grass pitch. Clean toilets and showers. Very convenient location for getting into hay-on-wye festival. The bus stopped directly outside the swan pub on site which had lovely burgers and local ales. Also a 20 minute walk to lovely swimming spot.

Disliked Need to check toilet paper is in each cubicle. Shower temperature was a bit erratic

Liked This site is under new ownership and is absolutely lovely. The shower facilities could be amazing, the showers were hot, the heaters were very welcome and i personally love a shower room rather than a toilet/shower block but here are a few minor tweaks that would make it a10/10 from. You need hand soap, I don't take a wash bag if just going to the loo, you need a mop available so when it is wet and muddy we can clean, maybe a wooden shower mat would also help. Finally the lights were hit and miss.
This did not rib our stay which was peaceful, and I would definitely recommend this site and the pub/restaurant. The honesty shop is a great idea too. Thanks

Liked Very peaceful - one of the best dawn chorus’s I’ve heard! Large spaced out pitches. Great pub next door which had just reopened. Nice having both water and electric on the pitch. 3 large individual toilet/shower rooms. Loved they have a lockable bike storage shed too!
Should add there were no issues with the dogs next door that have been previously mentioned, it appears a large metal fence has been instated to address this.

Local attractions

Walking’s certainly one of the go-to pursuits around here, but what kind of trails will you be clobbering? For those long-distance routes, the 136-mile Wye Valley Walk (five minutes’ drive) passes hills and the river, while the 177-mile Offa's Dyke Path (15 minutes) traces the border between Wales and England. There are challenging mountain paths up in the Black Mountains (an hour and 20 minutes) and for easier-going walking or cycling routes through village landscapes, the Black and White Trail (five minutes) should fit the bill. Of course, the Brecon Beacons National Park (50 minutes) is another hiking hub, but other outdoor activities are in full flow here too, from caving to gorge walking. When you fancy sprinkling some history into your stay, Arthur's Stone (10 minutes) has a decent helping, in the form of a Neolithic tomb linked to King Arthur. Hay-on-Wye (10 minutes) has a castle, or there are museums dotted around Hereford (20 minutes), a nice pairing with a distillery trip or shopping outing. And to round off your historical route, perhaps the National Trust’s The Weir Garden (10 minutes) might serve as a digestif, as this historic garden was once under Roman settlement.
