  • Pop-up campsite in a scenic location by the Lancaster Canal
  • A 15-minute drive from Lancaster; Morecambe 25 minutes
  • Suitable for paddleboards, canoes, kayaks and fishing
The best thing about the waterside location of Glasson Dock Campsite? For some guests it will be the chance to chill out and watch canal boats chugging along or see wildlife flitting about. For others it’s all about the active options – this is a spot where you can launch canoes, kayaks and paddleboards, fish or find lovely canalside walks. This fab pop-up camping field is next to the Lancaster Canal, a few metres from Glasson Marina. As well as the canal, the river Lune is close by – and it’s not far to the Lancashire coast, perhaps best appreciated 25 minutes’ drive away at Morecambe Bay. The compact city of Lancaster (15 minutes) is close at hand too and has plenty of supermarkets, shops and places for dinner out. This simple site is equipped with functional portable toilets and cold outdoor showers and is a five-minute stroll from the various cafés and eateries of Glasson Dock, which is the starting point for a number of footpaths and bike trails. The campsite is a laidback place where dogs, barbecues and campfires are all allowed and you’ll have space for an awning or gazebo if you like. Travelling without a car? Glasson Dock Campsite is a few minutes' walk from a bus stop, where you can catch regular services to Lancaster and beyond.

What customers say

This spot's a quiet canalside haven with grouse owners. Campers rave about heaps of room, handy local shops and walks, and it's great for families and the dog. Facilities are basic, though; loos are a bit squished and showers are chilly. Heard a bit of noise from other campers sometimes.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Small little campsite with a little park for the kids. A little jetty into the canal. But due to the heatwave it's quite low ATM. Apart from the toilet size the overall experience was good. The owner of the site came round and was very nice he even put our shoes inside when we was out so the rain didn't soak them. He could charge more for a night if the toilets and showers were bigger.

Disliked Toilets are on site and kept clean down side is they could do with a little more leg room. Had to sit sideways and the light weren't working in one of the cubicles.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Very helpful owner. We arrived slightly earlier than anticipated but he allowed us on anyway. A great campsite with plenty of pitching space. We didn't really stay much as we were in Blackpool for majority of the weekend but loved when we were onsite.
Nice open fields to stargaze and access to the canal to feed swans.
Messaged owner to inform him of some disrespectful people who had destroyed the toilet and within half an hour he had been and cleaned it. Would book again in the future. We had one electric and one non electric tent.

Disliked Toilets need more room. Extend the door forward as you don't need as much room to wash hands in my opinion but that's all ☺️

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Loved the little play area/frame in the middle as we have small children so was really handy for when we where setting up and taking everything down, they made loads of friends with the other kids at campsite too which was lovely, wasn’t too loud of a night time, owner came and had a chat when we arrived and explained what was near by, he was lovely! would definitely come again.

Disliked Toilets could do with an upgrade but didn’t bother us too much

Disliked Not a dislike really but toilets could do with an upgrade as a mid-sized person can barely fit in a cubicle.

Liked It's flat

Cheap

Disliked Toilets and showers should be condemned, they are ill conceived, cubicles are far too small with non closing doors and the shower is cold only.

Local attractions

Keen to explore the local landscapes? Head to the coast for a day on the beach in Morecambe or a wander through the seaside scenery of the Arnside & Silverdale National Landscape; both are about 25 minutes' drive away. Inland, the Forest of Bowland National Landscape (20 minutes’ drive) is a great place for a walk, and also home to the Bowland Wild Boar Park (50 minutes). For a dose of history on your holiday, pay a visit to medieval Lancaster Castle (15 minutes) and the National Trust’s fabulous Sizergh (half an hour), with an imposing stately home at the centre of a 1600-acre estate. Those of you who love a few thrill rides will definitely want to make the journey to Blackpool Pleasure Beach (45 minutes), perhaps visiting Blackpool Tower, the zoo and the Sea Life Centre while you're there.
