Gather around all you World War I aficionados, for here’s a real treat. The peaceful site at Dreamy Hollow is set on a 7.5-acre wild woodland site home to rare Lovat Scouts trenches listed by Historic England as a site of national importance. For anyone not so interested in 20th-century history, luckily there’s lots of birdwatching and stargazing to be done on site as well. Half an hour’s drive from King’s Lynn in Norfolk, the site’s almost wild camping and hammock pitches sit amid woodland comprising mainly oak, silver birch and mature hawthorn. Part of the site was quarried during the 1940s, and this provides some sheltered and some elevated pitches of varying sizes from tiny to truly gigantic. While most of these secluded spots are family friendly, the ones close to the trenches and in the Turtle Dove conservation area are adults-only.
 Campfires are allowed in designated fire baskets at each pitch when fire-risk conditions allow. If you would like a campfire, the site asks that you please order logs and kindling in advance when booking. Extra seasoned wood is available to purchase on site.

Μου άρεσε Easy checkin and communication, woodland site, decent facilities and info boards about local wildlife.

Δεν μου άρεσε Not what i was expecting. When a campsite claims to secluded I hope for some privacy even in school holidays, but no luck here, its an open woodland with closely packed pitches. There is not enough vegetation to offer as screens, conversations can be heard from nearby pitches and other peoples children were running through my pitch (some pitches have paths right through them). If there was a choice of pitches it would have helped but they are allocated.

I'm sorry the site wasn't what you were expecting. We do our best to be as transparent as possible in our descriptions and photos.

Some pitches are more open than others due to the nature of the site, however we believe we explain this on our website.

Unfortunately, sound will travel and when the site is busy (especially in school holidays) there is not much we can do about that.

If people were using your pitch as a walkway, our Warden Harry could have addressed that issue for you and had a word with people.

You can choose your pitch on our website. Each pitch has a page with pictures and explanations. If you'd like advice on which pitch would be best for you, please contact us and we can assist.

Unfortunately, PitchUp doesn't have the facility to allow customers to choose pitches, so they are allocated automatically based on how many people are in your booking.

I hope your experience doesn't put you off staying with us again.

Μου άρεσε Private plots, felt enclosed by nature. Showers were super cool.
Lots of little fun things we enjoyed (rope swings, nice benches, statues etc)
The staff (Harry) were super helpful with checking in past 5.
The fire kit has a great amount of wood

As a couple this was fine but many more people would get expensive!

Μου άρεσε Second to none! Heaven on earth, pitch was perfect, shown around the ww1 trenches, amazing! Jonathan showed us to our pitch, we bought a starter box of timber and we cooked our evening meal and breakfast. Also had a shower, it was phenomenal! I could hear the birds whilst I washed my hair, it was surreal to say the least! Will 100% be back!

Μου άρεσε The campsite and setting. The wardens were very inviting and helpful.

Δεν μου άρεσε There is a peafowl somewhere near and it was so noisy day and night. One of the pitches was quite overgrown and could have been strimmed or cut to make things more easier to pitch and move around. The showers and toilets did get very discusting when there are lots of people on site. No toilet roll at one point but just took our own after just in case,

The glamping site next door has quite a few peafowl who do make some noise. They are quite beautiful but noise at night isn't great. There's not much we can do about them unfortunately.

In regards to the toilets, extra checks should be done when it's busy but I'll make sure this is the case.

There’s quite a lot you can do without even leaving the site. Step into a time warp with a small-group visit to the World War I trenches, or take a guided tour of the protected Lovat Scout trenches. Going off site and further back over the centuries, have a wander around the ruins of Augustinian Creake Abbey or book a guided tour of the royal palace on Sandringham Estate (both 15 minutes’ drive) If history just isn’t your thing, you can book archery lessons on site. There’s a golf course at Old Hunstanton (20 minutes), and North Norfolk also has many easy and flat walks like the Norfolk Coast Path, 15 minutes away by car. Alternatively, you can join cycle paths straight from the site – borrow bikes in Snettisham (15 minutes) if you don’t have your own pedal power. Wildlife lovers should head for RSPB Titchwell Marsh (also 15 minutes) to have a snoop for tawny owls, egrets and grebes among the lagoons and reed beds. Catch a boat from National Trust-owned Morston Quay (half an hour) to visit England’s largest grey seal colony at Blakeney Point, or combine your animal-spotting with a family day on the beach at Holkham Bay (25 minutes), where seals often bask on the sand.
