Gather around all you World War I aficionados, for here’s a real treat. The peaceful site at Dreamy Hollow is set on a 7.5-acre wild woodland site home to rare Lovat Scouts trenches listed by Historic England as a site of national importance. For anyone not so interested in 20th-century history, luckily there’s lots of birdwatching and stargazing to be done on site as well. Half an hour’s drive from King’s Lynn in Norfolk, the site’s almost wild camping and hammock pitches sit amid woodland comprising mainly oak, silver birch and mature hawthorn. Part of the site was quarried during the 1940s, and this provides some sheltered and some elevated pitches of varying sizes from tiny to truly gigantic. While most of these secluded spots are family friendly, the ones close to the trenches and in the Turtle Dove conservation area are adults-only.
 Campfires are allowed in designated fire baskets at each pitch when fire-risk conditions allow. If you would like a campfire, the site asks that you please order logs and kindling in advance when booking. Extra seasoned wood is available to purchase on site.

Gostou Such a lovely setting and it was actually lovely to have pitches without cars, the place felt very magical with old trees and little fairy lights. The facilities were good and clean and the staff were really helpful and friendly.

Não gostou Unfortunately and unusually, there was a large, very loud group who were drinking a lot and being disrespectful when we stayed. Management did speak to them and they were warned to be quiet for the following night. We decided to leave early but were offered a nights stay for another time, management were very apologetic and dealt with it swiftly.

I'm a little confused by the emojis but I assume that you didn't enjoy your stay.

I believe you weren't happy as we don't allow amplified music on our site. This is to ensure everyone has a peaceful stay.

We make it clear on our website and other platforms that we're a quiet campsite with no amplified music and I also believe this was explained by our Head Warden to you on arrival.

Sorry you didn't enjoy our site, I appreciate a quiet site isn't for everyone. It is a little unfair to leave a 2 star review with no real explanation. Small business like ours can be greatly affected by reviews.

Gostou Easy checkin and communication, woodland site, decent facilities and info boards about local wildlife.

Não gostou Not what i was expecting. When a campsite claims to secluded I hope for some privacy even in school holidays, but no luck here, its an open woodland with closely packed pitches. There is not enough vegetation to offer as screens, conversations can be heard from nearby pitches and other peoples children were running through my pitch (some pitches have paths right through them). If there was a choice of pitches it would have helped but they are allocated.

I'm sorry the site wasn't what you were expecting. We do our best to be as transparent as possible in our descriptions and photos.

Some pitches are more open than others due to the nature of the site, however we believe we explain this on our website.

Unfortunately, sound will travel and when the site is busy (especially in school holidays) there is not much we can do about that.

If people were using your pitch as a walkway, our Warden Harry could have addressed that issue for you and had a word with people.

I hope your experience doesn't put you off staying with us again.

Gostou Private plots, felt enclosed by nature. Showers were super cool.
Lots of little fun things we enjoyed (rope swings, nice benches, statues etc)
The staff (Harry) were super helpful with checking in past 5.
The fire kit has a great amount of wood

Não gostou Pay per person rather than per plot.
As a couple this was fine but many more people would get expensive!

Gostou Beautiful woodland campsite. Private, secluded pitches. It made such a difference not having cars in your view, just the woods. Great facilities and friendly, helpful staff.

Gostou Second to none! Heaven on earth, pitch was perfect, shown around the ww1 trenches, amazing! Jonathan showed us to our pitch, we bought a starter box of timber and we cooked our evening meal and breakfast. Also had a shower, it was phenomenal! I could hear the birds whilst I washed my hair, it was surreal to say the least! Will 100% be back!

There’s quite a lot you can do without even leaving the site. Step into a time warp with a small-group visit to the World War I trenches, or take a guided tour of the protected Lovat Scout trenches. Going off site and further back over the centuries, have a wander around the ruins of Augustinian Creake Abbey or book a guided tour of the royal palace on Sandringham Estate (both 15 minutes’ drive) If history just isn’t your thing, you can book archery lessons on site. There’s a golf course at Old Hunstanton (20 minutes), and North Norfolk also has many easy and flat walks like the Norfolk Coast Path, 15 minutes away by car. Alternatively, you can join cycle paths straight from the site – borrow bikes in Snettisham (15 minutes) if you don’t have your own pedal power. Wildlife lovers should head for RSPB Titchwell Marsh (also 15 minutes) to have a snoop for tawny owls, egrets and grebes among the lagoons and reed beds. Catch a boat from National Trust-owned Morston Quay (half an hour) to visit England’s largest grey seal colony at Blakeney Point, or combine your animal-spotting with a family day on the beach at Holkham Bay (25 minutes), where seals often bask on the sand.
