Camping Delfino

A sea safari, in search of whales and dolphins, is a very special way to spend a day – and you can also see other sea life such as turtles on snorkel trips. If you’re not lucky – or if you’re particularly keen on aquatic life – there’s much more to see at the Aquarium of Genoa (an hour’s drive away, or accessible by train), the biggest aquarium in Europe. This coast is spectacular above the waves too – and one of the best ways to see some of it is a walk on the Via Julia Augusta, an ancient Roman road that passes just above the site and has great views over the Gallinara Island Natural Park. Inland, some of the finest views around are at Toirano Cave (20 minutes), where you can take guided tours to see cave paintings and prehistoric footprints as well as intriguing rock formations. For other days out, you might like to swish down the waterslide at Aquatic Park Le Caravelle (10 minutes) or just take a stroll around Albenga, looking out for the 12 medieval towers and visiting the Roman Ships Museum.
