Positiv Back to basics experience, showering with a bucket of cold water, separate pitches with a choice of shaded, woodland or in the open. Excellent value, even more so if you arrive under your own steam (I came by bicycle). Walking/easy cycling distance from Frome.

Positiv This is a beautiful little campsite, with lovely pitches set in glades in the woodland which are decently spaced so you feel like you have your own private area. Facilities are really basic - just composting loos and dishwashing facilities but the place is all the better for that.

It's 2 minutes off one of the national cycle routes (24) that runs between Radstock and Frome, with the latter being a 10 minute cycle journey away. Of course, it's also accessible by car.

The standout feature for me was the sheer variety of birds around here. I just sat for an hour this morning watching them - most relaxing.

You can normally have campfires here and they sell wood at a very reasonable price. Understandably, they've stopped allowing that during this very long, hot and dry spell in the UK (Summer 26). Under normal circumstances though, this would make for an even more pleasant experience.

Positiv Beautiful setting, pitches well spaced so feel secluded. Easy walk to Frome across fields. Beautiful river walk nearby. Facilities basic but good. Great to a have a fire.

Positiv Lovely pitch, cosy size for pur 2 person tent, and the set up with a fire pit area was good. Ease of buying fore wood was handy as the supermarket we stopped at on route did not have kindling, but the 'all you need' style wood bags of kindling and logs, with paper and fire rolls available was better value for money and you could just bank transfer the money what ever time of day it was. It was nice and quiet when we were there. I'm not sure how busy it gets, but we only saw one family, and one single occupant.
Although the site clearly states it has no shower facilities, they have gone to the effort of creating a body washing cubilcle where you can bucket wash, or I guess you could at least have a reasonable private space to wet wipe wash. I didn't try it out myself :) as we were only there one night so I was happy to wait until I got home.

Solar panels, inverter/regulator and battery and sensor lights would be off grid.
Also most guests summer not winter so solar works. Also now panels cheaper thru ebay etc than ever.

Positiv Lovely, chilled out place, and it's Vallis Veg!
All very simple camping, as advertised, but spot-on.
I actually quite enjoyed my bucket-and-scoop bath/shower, with a view of the trees and the sky. It's very useful to have the multi-tent option when you're meeting up with friends, camping in different ways, etc (my son and I were on bikes and under a tarp, and our friend was car + tent).
Not far from Frome, where there are plenty of places to get some breakfast or lunch (Projects café was great)

Cycling in from the south is probably best. We arrived from the north and had to clamber over and go through some places I think we weren't supposed to be.

Positiv Everything, the enclosed dedicated pitches, the shadiness of trees, beautiful surroundings, quietness and wonderfully basic facilities.

Negativ Nothing whatsoever - excellent site, a real hidden gem.

Positiv Beautiful wildlife and friendly atmosphere. Easy and pretty walk to frome. Will definitely come back!

Negativ Our pitch was in the woods so completely in the shade. In fairness, this was acknowledged in the booking form but was the last pitch available so just something to bear in mind. Also would be nice to have some kind of cleaning spray available for the bathrooms
