Ready for the real rural experience? At Oaktrack Glamping, in the Hampshire countryside a couple of miles north of Andover, you’ll be settling down on a four-acre family-run smallholding where you’ll share the space with a bunch of characterful rare-breed animals including Belted Galloway cows, Oxford Sandy and Black pigs and a flock of Welsh and Shetland sheep. They’re a very friendly bunch of animals here – and you can get to know them a bit better by joining in with farm activities including egg collecting and feeding. Such things are not compulsory, though, so it’s absolutely acceptable simply to relax back at your tent – a bistro set just outside pretty much invites some time spent sitting in the open air with a coffee/glass of wine. The bell tents are designed to make relaxing as easy as possible, in fact – each one is fully furnished and provided with bed linen and towels, plus crockery, cutlery, board games and books. And as if that wasn’t enough, there’s also a lovely touch in the form of a welcome hamper of tasty treats. For more substantial eats, pick up some of the smallholding’s own produce from the farm shop and head over to the communal kitchen, which has a small range of cooking equipment and a washing-up area. Toilets and showers are shared between the tents too. Generally, this is a peaceful place to spend some time, but it’s worth noting that the tents are in the middle of the smallholding and you may hear a bit of noise from the animals when they get excited about feeding time…

As you might expect from such a rural location, there are lots of routes you can follow nearby for countryside walks and bike rides – perhaps up into the nearby North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stopping by at a country pub on the return journey (there are two within walking distance of the smallholding). Also nearby are several pretty villages to explore, including Hurstbourne Tarrant, Vernham Dean and Upton (all within 10 minutes’ drive) – or you could set off for bigger settlements like the fabulous cities of Winchester and Salisbury (both about 35 minutes). As well as all this, the local area is home to a mixed bag of attractions that should include something to suit most interests – perhaps your tribe would enjoy a trip to the Iron Age Museum (10 minutes), the Army Flying Museum (15 minutes) or the Hawk Conservancy Trust (15 minutes)? And of course there’s also the famed ancient site of Stonehenge (25 minutes) to put on the list.

Oaktrack Glamping: Charmante, friedliche Auszeit mit gut ausgestatteten Bell Tents. Tiere, Eier sammeln, freundliche Gastgeber. Sicher für Kinder, naturnah. Einzig die vielbefahrene Straße störte, sonst perfekt. Viele wollen wiederkommen.

Positiv We had such a fantastic stay at Oaktrack Glamping. The owners made us feel like part of the family from the moment we arrived, which made the experience even more special. The tents were super comfortable, and I honestly had the best night’s sleep I’ve had in years.

The site itself is wonderful – great facilities, a beautiful location, and perfectly safe for children. Being so close to the animals was such a joy, and the farm shop is full of lovely gifts and local treats.

We only stayed briefly this time, but we’ll definitely be back for a longer visit next year. Couldn’t recommend Oaktrack Glamping more highly! Love Kimberly, Stuart and Charlie X

Positiv It was our first camping in UK and it was a beautiful experience. The tent was clean and had all basic amenities. If you are travelling with kids they would really enjoy the farm. We had also received few goodies like jam, eggs etc.

Positiv Cute site, very peaceful and quiet. Owner is lovely, gave us a cool box with little treats in it and showed us around. Got to see the animals who are obviously well looked after as they were eager to say hello. The bell tents are clean and spacious, there's only 5 and they are spaced apart so you know you'll have privacy and it won't be rowdy. Each one has its own outside seating area. Kitchen area and portaloo and shower were clean and well maintained. I am planning on coming back with my children as I know they would love it here.

Positiv We had the most amazing time. The hosts were kind, welcoming and attentive.
Our children loved the animals and we felt at home. We had everything we needed, and were comfortable from start to end.
My son has autism/adhd so the thought of being outdoors was a scary experience for him but I honestly watched him embraced the experience with such happiness and enthusiasm.
We all got offered to join in on day to day life on the farm, and it was so lovely.
We would like to thank the hosts and all they offered us as a family. We will most definitely be back.
