  • Family-friendly furnished bell tents on a Hampshire smallholding
  • A five-minute drive to Andover; 35 mins to Winchester or Salisbury
  • Farm shop on site, plus activities like egg collecting
Ready for the real rural experience? At Oaktrack Glamping, in the Hampshire countryside a couple of miles north of Andover, you’ll be settling down on a four-acre family-run smallholding where you’ll share the space with a bunch of characterful rare-breed animals including Belted Galloway cows, Oxford Sandy and Black pigs and a flock of Welsh and Shetland sheep. They’re a very friendly bunch of animals here – and you can get to know them a bit better by joining in with farm activities including egg collecting and feeding. Such things are not compulsory, though, so it’s absolutely acceptable simply to relax back at your tent – a bistro set just outside pretty much invites some time spent sitting in the open air with a coffee/glass of wine. The bell tents are designed to make relaxing as easy as possible, in fact – each one is fully furnished and provided with bed linen and towels, plus crockery, cutlery, board games and books. And as if that wasn’t enough, there’s also a lovely touch in the form of a welcome hamper of tasty treats. For more substantial eats, pick up some of the smallholding’s own produce from the farm shop and head over to the communal kitchen, which has a small range of cooking equipment and a washing-up area. Toilets and showers are shared between the tents too. Generally, this is a peaceful place to spend some time, but it’s worth noting that the tents are in the middle of the smallholding and you may hear a bit of noise from the animals when they get excited about feeding time…

Bell tent (two person)

Liked: What a fantastic place! Friendly antmosphere, fabulous bell tents with lots of thoughtful touches. Proper matresses, warm duvets and comfy pillows, carpeted floors and fairy lights. The setting is delightful with animals that the children can interact with; feeding the pigs, collecting the eggs and walking/playing with the Gertie and Bertie the goats. They were a firm favourite with my son! There is a shared gas hob for cooking and a shared gas BBQ for cooking with all crockery, cutlery and utensils provided and a shared sink for washing up. The site has 2 portaloo toilets and 2 porta cabin style showers. There are a variety of games for families to enjoy such as giant Jenga, monopoly, cards, badminton etc. We only stayed one night but we made memories to last a lifetime. I highly recommend Oaktrack!

Disliked: It’s a shame that the BBQ and gas hob are in different barns - it made cooking tricky for me but only because I was there as a single parent and didn’t want to leave things unsupervised. This would not be an issue for most!

Bell tent (four person)

Liked: Beautiful Farm. Lovely host, who really does give you the personal touch. I forgot bread but woke up in the morning, to find a nice loaf on my table, left by Tina. The tents are really clean, comfortable and well equipped. Really comfortable beds with nice duvets and plenty of blankets. Loved the welcome hamper....Homemade Marmalade, Milk, eggs and water. The kid's and myself, loved the Pigmy Goats. we had a few cuddles and walked them in the morning. This is a great little find and we'll definitely be back.

Bell tent (two person)

Liked: We had a really lovely weekend and couldn't have wished for anything better. Beds were comfortable, everything we needed was provided (e.g. cooking utensils, extra blankets, etc.). The owners were very welcoming and there was a generous welcome pack when we arrived. Helping to collect eggs etc. was great fun, and we had some lovely walks. Perfect.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Bell tent (two person)

Liked: So welcoming. All the animals. Very friendly & helpful. Feeding the animals. Delicious cakes & bacon in the farm shop. Pub next door, serving food.

Disliked: Air mattress wasn’t comfy or warm enough. Needs a little bin near each tent. Some way to keep your feet cleaner when you exit the shower.

Bell tent (two person)

Liked: This was an amazing experience. Very nice facilities, got to feed the pigs and sheep. Egg collecting and layer out with Billy the sheep on the evening. Good for adults and kids. Local pub round the corner so you can enjoy a few drinks if you wanted. We'll worth the money, recommended to friends and family already. Good signal.

From the manager: Thank you for your kind words and also all your help with the animal's watering during your stay!!

Local attractions

As you might expect from such a rural location, there are lots of routes you can follow nearby for countryside walks and bike rides – perhaps up into the nearby North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stopping by at a country pub on the return journey (there are two within walking distance of the smallholding). Also nearby are several pretty villages to explore, including Hurstbourne Tarrant, Vernham Dean and Upton (all within 10 minutes’ drive) – or you could set off for bigger settlements like the fabulous cities of Winchester and Salisbury (both about 35 minutes). As well as all this, the local area is home to a mixed bag of attractions that should include something to suit most interests – perhaps your tribe would enjoy a trip to the Iron Age Museum (10 minutes), the Army Flying Museum (15 minutes) or the Hawk Conservancy Trust (15 minutes)? And of course there’s also the famed ancient site of Stonehenge (25 minutes) to put on the list.
