Setting forth for the Lake District to seek out some scenic views? Settle in to Seatoller Farm and you can start on the scenery-seeing without so much as moving from the site. At this family-run working hill farm in Cumbria, the views are stunning whichever way you turn, taking in vistas of the Borrowdale valley and the River Derwent. At this back to basics site, there’s no wifi or phone signal (except Vodafone in Seatoller itself), so switch off and embrace the wild feel. When you roll up, there’s no reception, so pick out a pitch. Owner Daniel comes around in the morning and evening to check on guests, but they’re not always in the house. Every Saturday night (between 6pm and 8pm), stone-baked pizzas are sold on the farm. Take it back to your tent or tuck in inside the seating barn. Tasty toppings include the site’s own pork and Herdwick lamb. Also up for grabs at the farm (or from Dan on his rounds) are rare breed pork sausages, Herdwick lamb and mint burgers or logs and kindling. A nifty central location in the Lake District National Park means this site is well placed for lots of walks, including scrambling up Scafell, ticking off the Wainwright fells or a leisurely riverside ramble. Protected woodland runs along one side of the farm, with wildlife like bats, buzzards, woodpeckers and owls among the site’s frequent visitors. The low-key facilities preserve the relaxed rural vibe – separate gents’ and ladies toilets are close to the pitches, as are washing-up facilities and drinking water taps; showers are a short walk away at the main farm building. Campfires and barbecues are allowed here, but only if they're kept off the grass (you'll immediately be asked to put out any fires that burn the grass). There are a couple of pubs about a mile away for food and drinks, and a hotel five minutes' walk away for drinks on the terrace. The campsite has excellent access to the local bus service that runs regularly from the farm during the season.

Was Gäste sagen

Ruhiger Campingplatz mit toller Natur und vielen Wanderwegen. Gelobt wurden saubere, einfache sanitäre Anlagen, freundliche Besitzer und die Lage am Fluss/Pub. Weniger gut: kein Handyempfang, Duschen etwas entfernt, harter Boden, mücken. Sehr empfehlenswert für Camping-Puristen.

Positiv How clean, tidy and well laid out the camp site was.
The toilets and washing up point was always clean and stocked up, warm water too! Tho it tended to run out for the morning breakfast pot wash.
Pitches were clearly labelled and Daniel was very friendly and informative about the camp.
There is a walk to the showers and it says it's 6 minutes but I'd say it's shorter than that.
Shower cubicles are very large, clean and warm, there's also a separate room with a hair dryer and a freezer for icepacks.

Negativ Would be better to pay per pitch rather than per person but I understand quite a few campsites do charge this way.

Positiv We really enjoyed our stay at Seatoller Farm. The peacefulness of the small and simple campsite next to the river made for a lovely stay. The location is a great starting point for lots of walks and only a short drive away from Buttermere and Keswick. The Yew Tree pub 5 minutes down the road was also great.

Positiv The site is quiet and peaceful and has amazing views of the fells. Toilet block and dishwashing clean and usually not too busy (I was there midweek). Daniel is wonderfully helpful and friendly. Showers a short walk away which also means they're not generally too busy. Zero complaints and I'll be back.

Positiv We went to Climb Scaffel (Due to heat we had to cancel the climb).
- The location to the Mountain Range for Scaffel Pike was really nice, it was further away but quieter, picturesque and one with nature.
- The facilities, Toilets, public wash sinks were incredibly clean , well looked after and seemed to be monitored daily. (these are open 24/7)
- Theirs a variety of different pitches in the lower fields, away from the main entrance, some towards the river or even several spaces for Vans.
- Their are showers, but not onsite. These are about a 5minute walk. The hosts(I believe Dan and Ruby) are incredibly useful, communication is very well.

A Bonus is that most of the pitches seem to be covered by the Trees/shade.

Negativ The only disadvatnage is that our Pitch (1+2) were incredibly hard to peg the tends down into the ground.

We're all experienced at camping, but some of the tent pegs would even dent the ground. (It is worth noting we arrived late).

Positiv Location, clean and loved all the animals , eggs and marmalade were wonderful , owner very helpful, definitely be aware this is a a working farm so expect noise, it didn’t bother us

Positiv Nothing

Negativ Due to illness on the day of travel we did not make it to the site. It took two weeks and a reminder before we got a response to an email enquiring about a refund or credit for a return stay. This was unsympathetic and impersonal and just said we should have taken out travel insurance. For a camping pitch!!

Dust off those hiking boots, for Seatoller’s surrounds are stacked with walking trails to suit all comers, from those seeking a gentle stroll through woodland and across heather-strewn fells to those in search of more vertical challenges. The beginning of a couple of the national park’s top climbs are easy to get to too – Great Gable (an hour and a half) and mighty Scafell (a couple of hours). Roam a little further afield for hikes on Catbells (15 minutes’ drive), around the Castlerigg stone circle (25 minutes) or on the slopes of Helvellyn (half an hour away, and a fine choice for mountain bikers too). If you’d like to have a crack at climbing in a controlled environment, try the via ferrata route at Honister Slate Mine, five minutes away, and worth a stop for an underground mine tour even if you’re not up to clinging on to crags. All sound a little tiring? Less demanding days out include the Lake District Wildlife Park (half an hour) and the sculpture trail at Rydal Hall Gardens (40 minutes). It’s worth knocking around Keswick for a bit too, visiting the eccentric Puzzling Place exhibition and Derwent Pencil Museum or taking tipples at the town’s brewery. Alpaca trekking at Lingholm Estate and Whinlatter Forest are some other splendid days out.
