A secluded, simple site in the middle of the South Downs National Park? Splendid. Those who look for space and fine views while on a rural break should consider a stay at Clarefield Copse Wild Camping, in a quiet corner of Hampshire 15 minutes’ drive from Petersfield. As you might expect from a spot inside a national park, the views from here are pretty fab – as is the amount of space around the place from which to admire them. The owners have kept things low key so as not to interfere with their natural surrounds, simply installing a shower and toilets (regularly cleaned) and a drinking water supply, leaving plenty of open space to play games, light a barbie and construct a campfire. Bike rides and walks are top activities around these parts – start by taking a wander by the lake next to the site or on local footpaths, or, just maybe, strolling to the nearest pub in half an hour or so. Many a mile of trail runs through the national park, and there’s much more strolling to be done in nearby National Trust properties or on day trips to Chichester and Portsmouth (both half an hour away by car).

Un càmping ampli i tranquil amb experiència de "wild camping" i vistes boniques. Parcel·les grans i ben separades, amb fogueres. Instal·lacions bàsiques però suficients, inclosos lavabos i dutxes. Em va agradar The site was nice and quiet, lots of space too. Can pitch wherever you like which is nice.

No em va agradar The facilities were very basic. The locks/handles on the toilet door were hanging off, also very dark in the toilet too. On the second day there all three toilets were blocked when I left!

Em va agradar Beautiful, quiet and close to nature. My daughter loved the rope swing. Toilets were clean. Steve (owner/manager) was very friendly

No em va agradar Both showers were unfortunantly without hot water.
Due to the heatwaves we unfortunantly weren't allowed to buy firewood for campfire (not their fault).

Em va agradar We love the space and relaxed nature at Clarefield. The pitches are very large with great space between each pitch. We had plenty of space to have a game of rounders and not disturb anybody else. It is our second time back and I know we will be going again next year.

No em va agradar The toilets and showers are basic but this is a seasonal wild camping site so you should expect this. If you need shower and toilet blocks this is not the place for you.
Lots of dogs off lead and our boy is nervous but there is plenty of space so I just kept him on lead around our area.

Em va agradar Lovely relaxing quiet campsite with lots of space to pitch up. Campers aren't on top of each other. Very spacious. The toilets and showers are basic but a bonus. Lovely scenery with horses in the next field and sheep and pheasants. The guy who came round to check if we were ok everyday was called Steve and he was very friendly and helpful. Would come again

No em va agradar No access to the bins from the camping field. You either have to walk out of the campsite or drop your rubbish off when you drive out of the campsite. Also the driveway down to the campsite is bumpy with pot holes and bricks.

Em va agradar Large open spaces with freedom to pitch with friends and groups with little restrictions.
Great space for all to roam, everyone was friendly, respected others and didn’t make you feel like you shouldn’t be there (like you find in some campsites where all people do is moan about others!) we took our 15 month old puppy for first time camping and there were a couple of times she broke free from excitement (and a dodgy rope) but people were always so kind and understood - made it all so easy and relaxed. (And she actually did really well!)
Owner (once we met them after a day of being on site) was really friendly and welcoming.

No em va agradar Toilets could do with a little upkeep and more needed.
A little more information would be nice - unclear what was drinking water for example- we took our chances, where we could dispose of rubbish - it was even quite unclear where we could pitch up - it was lovely to have the freedom but we were worried about getting it wrong (although it did become apparent that all was quite relaxed)
There were some lovely walks from site but we found them by chance so a bit more local information would be good.

Folk who’ve invested in a National Trust membership can surely get their money’s worth out of this area: aim for 18th-century Uppark House (10 minutes’ drive), wander around Woolbeding Gardens (10 minutes) and admire the art collection at Petworth House (half an hour) – tipped to be one of the finest in the NT’s possession. (Or try Hinton Ampner, Slindon Estate, Winkworth Arboretum…) There’s a whole load more history to see down by the coast, too. If it’s maritime times gone by that interest you, head to Portsmouth to potter around the historic dockyard and mosey around the Mary Rose Museum (or, for something more modern, sail up the Emirates Spinnaker Tower to see the sea from 170 metres up). Weald & Downland Living Museum (20 minutes) is a fab place for a glimpse into real life from days of yore. If you’re simply planning to fill your break with lots of rural rambles, perhaps it’s a wise idea to lay in supplies for a restorative drink upon your return? Langham Brewery (20 minutes) is worth a visit for a tour of the steam-powered brewery, and there are local vinos to pick up at Trotton Estate (10 minutes) and Upperton Vineyards (20 minutes).
