What better way to start (or end, or spend) the day than with a waterside wander? Barrow On Trent, between the meandering River Trent and the historic Trent and Mersey canal, is especially well-placed for scenic rural rambles (accompanied by a well-behaved dog, if you’ve got one looking like it needs a hol). In the middle of these green surrounds, the peaceful fields of Hill Farm Caravan and Camping Site make a great base for hols in this quiet corner of Derbyshire. No matter when you come, stays in this family-run site's pods should be nice and cosy – each one is insulated and has electric heating included to keep guests toasty on chillier nights. Guests also have access to a smart toilet and shower block and a washing-up area, and are welcome to set up a barbecue for a spot of alfresco cooking.  Other dining options include the three local pubs that can be reached on foot or heading 20 minutes by car into Derby to peruse the city's range of restaurants and takeaways. Need to burn off last night's meal? Help is at hand: make tracks for the local watersports centre (five minutes' drive) or lace up your boots and head for the moors and valleys of the Peak District (50 minutes).

Els hostes lloen constantment el personal amable i servicial, la neteja de les instal·lacions i l'atmosfera relaxant. Les banyeres d'hidromassatge són un punt fort, i molts gaudeixen de les acollidores tendes tipus campana i les cabanes. Tot i que la majoria de ressenyes són molt positives, s'esmenten alguns punts menors, com ara parcel·les properes, problemes ocasionals amb la regulació de la temperatura de l'hidromassatge i la necessitat de portar el propi llit. Em va agradar Really enjoyed our stay! The hot tub was a dream, and it was nice and cozy in the bell tent. The site is perfectly set out, very chilled and relaxing with a family friendly vibe, and all staff gave a warm welcome and were very friendly. All facilities were clean and in good working order. I would definitely recommend and stay again.

Em va agradar We recently stayed at this campsite in a bell tent with two adults and four boys, and it was an incredible experience! The hot tub was a highlight for all of us—perfect for relaxing after a day of fun. The large outdoor dining and seating area next to our tent offered a wonderful space to enjoy meals and play games, and we appreciated the privacy it provided.

The toilet blocks and showers were always clean, with hot water available whenever we needed it, which made our stay very comfortable. We also loved the hot snacks and ice creams from Sam’s—an absolute treat for the kids!

The campsite was exceptionally well managed and welcoming, creating a friendly atmosphere throughout our stay. It was quiet at night, allowing us to rest well. Overall, everything was perfect, and we can’t wait to return!

Em va agradar We stayed in a large bell tent with hot tub. The hot tub was already heated waiting for when we arrived.
The amenities were very clean and tidy.

Barrow On Trent may be a peaceful spot, but if day trips are your thing you’ll likely appreciate its excellent transport links: major roads like the A50, A6 and M1 are all within easy reach. The local area's got a lot going for it, too: anglers can spend their days at nearby Robinwood Lakes (10 minutes' drive), while speed demons can zoom down to Donington Park race circuit (15 minutes) or East Midlands Aeropark (20 minutes). For more high-adrenaline adventure, head to the classic rides at Alton Towers theme park (40 minutes).  For days spent at a gentler pace, head to the house and grounds at Elvaston Castle Country Park (15 minutes) or the National Trust's Calke Abbey (15 minutes). More history is on hand at Derby's Pickford House Museum (20 minutes) – swing by here to try on some Regency costumes (if you think you can pull them off).  In need of some nature therapy? Head for the Peaks for walks in the spectacular valleys around Dovedale (50 minutes) or bracing hilly hikes like the Win Hill trail (about an hour and a quarter). For an unconventional stroll closer to base, pencil in a date with the Charnwood Forest alpacas (20 minutes).
