The owners of Low Hollows reckon they’ve got one of the most stunning locations in the Lake District… and it’s easy to see why they love it. This Cumbria pop-up site is in the foothills of Blencathra, so it’s a scenic place, and it’s easy to get to as well – it's just a little way off the A66. That handy position means that it’s easy to get to the village of Threlkeld, a mile away, for two excellent pubs and a coffee shop – or continue on to the bigger market town of Keswick, less than 10 minutes’ drive away. The Keswick to Penrith bus route stops in the village too, so you can get out and about easily without taking the car. And where might your outings take you? Well, it’s all about the open air around here: climbing, horse riding, canoeing and shooting are all within five miles, and there’s a golf course less than a mile away. Cyclists can head out on the C2C (Coast to Coast) route from the village, while walkers take strolls along the Keswick to Threlkeld railway line path. More intrepid types can tick off several Lakeland fells nearby, including Skiddaw and Helvellyn as well as Blencathra. Sounds rather like you’ll need time to chill out back on site – and handily there’s plenty of space for that, plus a stream for soothing tired feet. Barbecues are permitted on the pitches, and you’re welcome to bring dogs and kids (there’s a whole lot of field for them to scamper about in). Facilities are on the low-key side, with just showers and toilets (two of each for the ladies and gents) and a washing-up area.

喜欢 It was cheap

不喜欢 Our night here will be remembered for having a group of 15 people drinking, smoking and playing terrible drum and bass music really loudly until midnight. Despite it saying “quiet time” was 10pm. There was also a group of six lads having BBQs despite that supposedly not being allowed. No sign of the owners, the field is on a huge slant so no flat pitches and the “bin” is a large open tractor trailer which smelled horrendous. There were two showers and two toilets and two sinks which were not very clean. I believe we got ripped off and I won’t stay here again and I would not recommend it.

喜欢 Really good camping ground lots of space between tents

不喜欢 Better signage for campsite I missed the turning twice but that probably was my fault lol.

More signs on the campsite and where to park only found out when pitching up on the first site there was two other flatter fields that you could have pitched up on

喜欢 Beautiful location. Hot water. Clean toilets.

不喜欢 Enforcement of quiet hours after 10pm. We had a large group shouting and screaming until gone 3am. We text to complain but received no reply, and ended up having to repitch our tent.

喜欢 Not much, was no fuss picth and go.

不喜欢 Camping field was mostly sloped, toilet block/old barn was grubby. Left and didnt stay second night.

喜欢 You did not have to check in, information was on a whiteboard near the communal/shower and toilets.

不喜欢 Could of been my fault for not reading thoroughly enough but, reception sign pointing to to a door. No one of course answered but I was a bit unaware that I could just pitch up straight away since I booked online. Not a major issue of course.

不喜欢 Need more WCs & showers when it's busy access to lower field muddy & trick for cars when wet.

So, you’ve just arrived, and the kids (or big kids) in your group are raring and ready for adventures. Handily, as well as all the footpaths such as Skiddaw trails (10 minutes’ drive), Catbells trails (15 minutes) and the Helvellyn trails (10 minutes), Keswick (10 minutes) has boat hire, the Kong Adventure Centre with climbing walls, caving activities and outdoor excursions or the Puzzling Place for the ultimate optical illusion. In Whinlatter Forest Park (15 minutes), mountain biking and cycling may be on the cards, or Segwaying, Go Ape and guided alpaca treks… at Aira Force waterfall and Ullswater (15 minutes), there's a gorgeous waterfall trail… while at The Lakes Distillery (20 minutes), on the menu are whisky tours and tastings. If it’s history you’re after, head to the Castlerigg Stone Circle (10 minutes), a historic circle with spectacular views of fells, or the Grade I-listed Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens (15 minutes). After all that, there’s always lots of animals to spot at the Lake District Wildlife Park (20 minutes).
