The owners of Low Hollows reckon they’ve got one of the most stunning locations in the Lake District… and it’s easy to see why they love it. This Cumbria pop-up site is in the foothills of Blencathra, so it’s a scenic place, and it’s easy to get to as well – it's just a little way off the A66. That handy position means that it’s easy to get to the village of Threlkeld, a mile away, for two excellent pubs and a coffee shop – or continue on to the bigger market town of Keswick, less than 10 minutes’ drive away. The Keswick to Penrith bus route stops in the village too, so you can get out and about easily without taking the car. And where might your outings take you? Well, it’s all about the open air around here: climbing, horse riding, canoeing and shooting are all within five miles, and there’s a golf course less than a mile away. Cyclists can head out on the C2C (Coast to Coast) route from the village, while walkers take strolls along the Keswick to Threlkeld railway line path. More intrepid types can tick off several Lakeland fells nearby, including Skiddaw and Helvellyn as well as Blencathra. Sounds rather like you’ll need time to chill out back on site – and handily there’s plenty of space for that, plus a stream for soothing tired feet. Barbecues are permitted on the pitches, and you’re welcome to bring dogs and kids (there’s a whole lot of field for them to scamper about in). Facilities are on the low-key side, with just showers and toilets (two of each for the ladies and gents) and a washing-up area.

Gostou Just what we needed, loads of room to pitch up, gorgeous views, showers and toilets with toilet roll supplied, can’t really fault it at all for £44. Would deffo come back again

Não gostou I didn’t dislike anything. Maybe the hill to get to the toilets but that’s our fault for pitching up at the bottom of it!

Gostou The views are absolutely stunning, great base for walking Blencathra and other walks, 5 minutes from Keswick, toilets/showers basic but manageable.

Questions, no water in bottom field and it’s a bit of a hilly walk to the water.

Gostou Happy with the site and space you get to camp. Nice and quiet when we arrived on Thursday and got busier on the Friday.

Gostou Easy access to the open field to pitch up.

Não gostou Condition of the shower and toilet facilities could be improved. There is a communal area next to the wash area that is covered in bird muck.

Gostou Amazing hot showers! Toilet facilities and washing up area were great too. Fantastic views to wake up to and not too far from the pub

Não gostou Slept on a bit of a slope to be closer to the toilet facilities but the site is big enough to find flatter areas to pitch the tent

Gostou Location great for Keswick. Nice scenery. Quiet. Relaxed. I actually liked the toilet/shower barn complete with birds singing in the roof!

Não gostou Because of sloping field and wanting a flatter area to pitch we ended right at the bottom of a long climb up a hill to use the facilities which not ideal in the middle of the night!
Not very clear what to do on arrival. Basically just find a spot and didn’t see any staff!

Gostou Location.

Não gostou Lack of facilities. Not enough toilets for the size of the campsite. Also a noise curfew would be nice as other campers were running riot until 3 in the morning. Left a day early because of lack of sleep.

Gostou The location is wonderful. It is easy to find and a relaxed approach to pitching.
The shower barn has bags of character and charm.

Não gostou Not many facilities, which wasn’t problem for me but I could see queues building later in the morning.

So, you’ve just arrived, and the kids (or big kids) in your group are raring and ready for adventures. Handily, as well as all the footpaths such as Skiddaw trails (10 minutes’ drive), Catbells trails (15 minutes) and the Helvellyn trails (10 minutes), Keswick (10 minutes) has boat hire, the Kong Adventure Centre with climbing walls, caving activities and outdoor excursions or the Puzzling Place for the ultimate optical illusion. In Whinlatter Forest Park (15 minutes), mountain biking and cycling may be on the cards, or Segwaying, Go Ape and guided alpaca treks… at Aira Force waterfall and Ullswater (15 minutes), there's a gorgeous waterfall trail… while at The Lakes Distillery (20 minutes), on the menu are whisky tours and tastings. If it’s history you’re after, head to the Castlerigg Stone Circle (10 minutes), a historic circle with spectacular views of fells, or the Grade I-listed Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens (15 minutes). After all that, there’s always lots of animals to spot at the Lake District Wildlife Park (20 minutes).
