On the southern edge of North York Moors National Park – and a geographically sensible choice for those intent on a hiking holiday – Bank Top Camping is a family-friendly site a 15-minute drive from Pickering. Woodland walks can be accessed directly from the site, but it’s not just the ramblers who find the location convenient: watersports enthusiasts can reach the North Sea coast in less than one hour, with places like Whitby (40 minutes’ drive) and Scarborough (50 minutes) among the top local choices. Spacious pitches sit on the edge of a large field fringed by tall, leafy trees, and they come with electric hook-ups and views over the Vale of Pickering, plus oodles of room for children to run around and play games. The kids might also enjoy making friends with the resident animals; speaking of which, while dogs are welcome guests at Bank Top Camping, they should be kept on a lead while on site. A small café sells hot drinks, locally made ice cream and a selection of home-baked goods (mmm… muffins), as well as honey produced on site by hard-working bees that you can watch at the fascinating Observation Hive. If you’re into making your own food, there’s a communal fridge freezer to store any essentials, and a sheltered washing-up area with plenty of hot water. Other facilities include a toilet block with luxury touches such as underfloor heating (blissful, on a parky Yorkshire morning), hot-water showers and hairdryers. There is also a laundry room with a washing machine and tumble dryer.

喜欢 Lovely looked after site. Very clean, everything you need and well located. The venison burgers they sell are great, we bought a second batch. Would definately use again.
Word of caution...keep an eye out for the robot lawn mower. ☺️

喜欢 We had a great time camping, we have a young family and the site was perfect for our needs, the facilities were always clean and the size of the site was great. The family shower room was very handy. The selection of local venison was a real bonus and was delicious! The camp site is in a stunning setting and was great for us to get to both York and the coast. We would highly recommend this site.

喜欢 Great pitch and location, the lady that was there, was so helpful, we ask to be put near to the bathroom and we where.
We could bbq if we wanted to.

不喜欢 Didn't sell milk, but it not a big deal, went into Pickering to get some. Wasn't aware if you could get WI-Fi or not but we weren't bothered about that

Or head to Dalby Forest (25 minutes), where a Go Ape park has treetop adventure courses for all ages. A spectacular country mansion in the equally spectacular setting of the Howardian Hills National Landscape, Castle Howard (35 minutes) might look familiar from TV dramas such as ‘Bridgerton’ and ‘Victoria’. Elegant interiors include the Chapel, with its opulent pre-Raphaelite decoration by the likes of William Morris. Stroll around the harbour at Whitby (40 minutes), grabbing fish and chips or embarking on a coastal cruise to see seals and (if you’re lucky) dolphins. Back on dry land, climb the 199 Steps leading to the atmospheric ruins of Whitby Abbey, which are said to have inspired Bram Stoker to write ‘Dracula’.
