A melodic name isn’t all Sutton Hoo has going for it… this site on a small working farm among free-range chickens is also less than a 10-minute walk from Sutton Hoo. You'll have heard of that of course: the splendid Anglo-Saxon ship burial where a warrior king lay for 1,400 years, and hailed since its discovery in the 1930s as one of the finest archaeological finds anywhere in Britain. Trips down memory lane are all around the local area too, as the park's in the age-old Suffolk Coast and Heath Area of Natural Beauty, and a 10-minute drive from the Woodbridge Tide Mill on the River Deben, one of the last in the world still churning up flour using time-honoured techniques. Visit to learn about the process through interactive activities then ply the streets and traditional stores of the pretty riverside market town of Woodbridge – it’s got a butcher, fishmonger and greengrocer (as well as more modern amenities like a supermarket, coffee shops and clothes boutiques). Get your supplies from these local producers then tote it back to the park and cook it up on the campfire while the kids and dogs run around on the big grass field opposite. And if you're after more historical expeditions once fully fed? Orford (20 minutes’ drive) and Framlingham (25 minutes) both have castles to check out, while the coastal and woodland walks near the site are sure to have you harking back to simpler times. One tree-lined place for a wander close by is Rendlesham Forest a 10-minute drive away, which is well worth a visit for its play areas, picnic spots and bike park, as well as its orienteering trails and horse riding paths.

喜欢 Spacious pitches with privacy hedges between, well maintained site with hot showers. Toilets were always clean and we loved the fire pit and logs for £10. Garrow and Helen are so welcoming and lovely. We had excellent communication and clear directions and instructions so would definitely recommend and we would stay again.

不喜欢 The road is noisy first thing so would recommend ear plugs which we got after an early wake up the first morning and after that it was fine so bring ear plugs!!

喜欢 Excellent location and very peaceful. Mostly more mature campers which suits me. The owners are lovely and accommodating.

不喜欢 The toilet and shower facilities are very dated, tatty and in desperate need of refurbishment. Also not as clean as I remember since my last visit.

喜欢 Good bathroom facilities. Pitches are sizeable all with your own tap. Good dog field. Great access to the east part of Suffolk.

不喜欢 Noise from the main road can be quite loud early morning as you are in a farming area.

喜欢 It’s a lovely small, flat site with lots of space on each pitch. Check in is super efficient and there aren’t all the rules that other campsites have, but every one was very respectful as a result so it was lovely.

The showers are lovely and warm and there’s masses of space for the children to play. It’s very convenient for a Sutton Hoo visit and to walk into Woodbridge.

There were a group of teenagers staying on the site when we were there. They were really quiet and respectful and no bother at all - I hope their parents get to read this.

不喜欢 There are two showers in the women’s and two in the men’s so you sometimes have to come back.

喜欢 It’s a lovely little site. I love the way the (majority of the) pitches have a hedge beteeen them. as NT members we make use of the site’s proximity to Sutton Hoo itself. This was our second visit and we will be back I’m sure!

喜欢 The campsite is in a great position to explore the area around it. It is in a lovely rural spot, farmland all around. The pitches are a good size, good clean shower/toilet block, small play area for children and fridges available in the reception area. It is a small site with limited facilities but we'll maintained and clean. Very good communication from the owners, we were there in a period of drought so no firepits or bbqs were allowed, understandably.

喜欢 This is our 2nd time staying here and we love it. Clean, quiet, safe for kids, nice dog walking area and on the doorstep of National Trust Sutton Hoo. Fridges and freezers available for food storage and ice block freezing.

To find the site please follow the brown Sutton Hoo signs from the A12. From the B1083 turn right into the entrance to Sutton Hoo; you will see a large wooden helmet sign saying Sutton Hoo. After turning in from the B1083 take the second right turn into the farm, where there is a Welcome to Sutton Hoo Holidays Campsite sign at the entrance. Then turn right and then left and the campsite is in front of you. The blackboard will list which pitch you are allocated.

Once you’ve had your wander in the woods, the water awaits: the River Deben is just the spot for fishing and sailing less than 10 minutes’ drive away. You can also hire rowing, sailing and canoeing boats and explore the islands and waterways of Thorpeness (30 minutes) and its mere or switch to the artsy coastal town of Aldeburgh (25 minutes’ drive) for strolls on the North Sea sands, catching flicks at the century-old cinema and jaunts up the old Martello Tower. Another scenic seaside village is Southwold further on at 45 minutes from the park with its Victorian pier and classic white lighthouse. And if you're into twitching? The coastal birding spots of Minsmere and Dunwich are both 40 minutes’ drive.
