If plenty of space and a laidback, welcoming atmosphere are top on your list of wild camping must-haves, surely you will like the sound of Hafod Hall Camping Club. This peaceful, family-run site is on a working farm in Bylchau in North Wales, surrounded by hills and so spacious that kids can run free. The basics are covered here – a toilet and hot shower – and so are all the things you might expect from a real working farm, like birdsong, bleating sheep and tractors in the distance. This is also a designated Dark Skies area, so make sure to put aside time for a cup of tea under the stars (when the conditions are just right). Guests are welcome to construct campfires to keep warm of an evening (but please note you'll need to use the firepits provided, and buy your wood on site). As a wild camping site, it's possible you may have to walk up to the top field – it's a little walk but you'll be rewarded with some excellent views. There's no mobile signal or wifi here, but guests are welcome to use the landline. Hafod Hall Camping Club is in a wildlife haven home to over 50 species of local birds. The surrounding area is splendid for hikers and cyclists, with several local trails to choose from. Kids are only allowed on site if over the age of 14 (and will be classed as adults for charging purposes).

Gostou Perfect for what I wanted. I wanted the ‘wild’ feel but still with toilets, shower and water. The site felt empty when I was there (just after BH weekend) and certainly felt wild. The owner was friendly and said I could pitch up wherever I pleased - too much choice! The toilet/shower block is finished to a nice standard and the shower was more than warm enough.
Great location for Llandudno, Conway, Betws-y-coed etc.

Não gostou Although I wanted a ‘wild’ feel, it would have been nice to have a sink in the toilet block.

Gostou Very nice pitch. They even allowed us take our dog and cat. Place is big and you can choose if you want to pitch tent under tree or open area.

Gostou There are some nice views.
The tents are quite far from each other.

Não gostou This was not a very pleasant camping experience mainly because the facilities are not set up for so many campers. It might be more pleasant during quiter periods.
-The parking around the house is tiny and very awkward to unload if groups are unloading and blocking entrances/exits.
-The road is in a bad state before the house and up to the car park where the entrance is a sandpit.
-There is one tap, 1 shower and 4 toilets and there were 40 to 50 people over the weekend. It should not take much effort to install another tap. No sink for washing dishes etc.
-No toilet paper on Sunday morning between 8:30 and 11am while the host was walking around.
-It seems like the site is trying to fit as many people in as possible while not spending money on basic facilities such as taps, sinks or the road.

Do gerente: We are a Wild Campsite and more than fairly priced. The road is repaired at least twice a year but in North Wales it rains a lot hence it washes away. The toilet paper issue could have been solved by asking as sadly people do take them but we would have been ore than happy for you to have your own from reception. I think the bottom line it was the wrong venue for your break and am sorry you were disappointed..

Nice quiet site with decent space between pitches.

Gostou The campsite is spread out within trees and small openings so even when it’s busy, it still doesn’t feel crowded or busy as it’s not one open space. Each space is a decent size and has its own fire pit. It’s nice and quiet as it is away from main roads and attractions which also means little light pollution.

Não gostou The toilet and shower facilities are serviceable but could be better. There is also no sink to wash hands in.

Gostou Spacious pitches, friendly host.

Não gostou Lots of groups which meant there was lots of late night noise until around 2am- not very relaxing and made it difficult to sleep, facilities weren’t maintained, no toilet paper.

Do gerente: I am sorry you were disturbed but if you had come to reception and told us the people would have been spoken to and probably asked to leave although we had no other complaints.

Our toilets are checked every hour to make sure there is toilet paper and in fact we have never had that complaint. If you had come to reception we would have immediately re-stocked the toilets so sorry for your inconvenience.

Gostou Really lovely site! Lots of secluded spots to pitch up with plenty of space around yoi, it really does feel like wild camping. Grant was great and so helpful getting us set up and showing us around, perfect place to take the dog and lots of walks around. Will definite be back!

Hiking, biking, fishing, climbing, mountain biking, kayaking… and all in spectacular scenery: use Hafod Hall as a handy base for Eryri (Snowdonia) and North Wales, or stay close to base to investigate river and countryside, wildlife and the night sky of the Eryri International Dark Sky Reserve. The mining heritage of Denbighshire, Wrexham and North Wales can be explored at Talargoch, which has the only Cornish-style engine house still standing in North Wales, and at the Minera Lead Mines, now a country park and heritage attraction. Open on occasional days, the Bersham Colliery Mining Museum at Wrexham tells the tale of the region’s coal mining. You could also have a couple of days coastwards, to the likes of seaside towns Rhyl and Prestatyn, hike the Denbigh moors and sail or fish on Llyn Brenig reservoir, or tackle some of the famed fishing in the area, such as for salmon at the River Dee, and trout and more salmon at the River Elwy.
