If you’re heading to Hexham and hoping to find a suitable spot nearby for an outdoor stay, take a look at Hexham Racecourse Caravan Site. This spacious park is two miles south of Hexham and well placed for visits to the market town and time spent exploring the scenic Northumberland surroundings. You don’t have to be a horse lover to stay here – but you’ll probably particularly appreciate it. As the name suggests, this site is part of the town’s racecourse (known as ‘Britain’s most scenic racecourse’), with pitches right next to the course for a real sense of atmosphere on race days. Things get pretty lively during those race days, but at other times this is a very peaceful place to stay, with lovely views over the countryside and a south-facing aspect to give you a full day of sunlight. The main amenities block has a laundry room as well as ladies’ and gents’ toilets and showers along with accessible facilities. You’re welcome to bring one or two dogs along provided they’re kept on a lead at all times on site. Getting out and about, it’s a five-minute drive to Hexham for shops, pubs and restaurants, or about half an hour to Newcastle. Hadrian’s Wall is very close by too, as are the fabulous scenery of the Northumberland National Park and North Pennines National Landscape.

Gostou Brilliant location, good bathroom and showers. The VIEW 😲 absolute bargain!

Não gostou Would have been helpful to have a few essentials to buy at reception. Eg, washing up liquid, toothbrush and a couple of basics.

Gostou The views were fantastic and the site was clean and quiet. Toilets and shower block was well looked after. Shower had hot water whenever we used it. Staff were friendly.

Gostou Felt welcoming. Check in very straightforward, John is superb.
WiFi available , quiet site with a small play park.

Não gostou Just managed to get my A/C power cable to reach the power post, had to join two together. Not a downside but worth considering if you only have a 15m cable.

Gostou Lovely views, peaceful, with sheep in the fields. Pitch was good that we had bit some were on a slope, was a bonus to be right at the front with the views right in front of you. Site manager very attentive whilst showing you to your pitch. Nicely placed for visiting Roman Ruins, Hadrians Wall and the area. Enough facilities on the site too.

Não gostou Shower curtain situation. The second time I went in it was a flood and I had to mop all the water up before I could use it. Maybe there is a better solution?

Gostou Staff friendly. ground nice and level so no sliding off the carry matt half way through the night. Facilities nice and clean. Great view of the horse racing track and rolling hills. Good value for money

Gostou Spacious spot, really good toilets, showers and cleaning facilities. WiFi is spot on if needed too.

Não gostou Tent pitch wasn’t exactly flat, made things like cooking and sleeping a bit harder.

Gostou Booked last minute. Pitches are spacious. We liked that you could drive onto pitch & have a lovely view of the race course and more. Toilet block was very spacious & clean.
We hit on lucky with the weather & are hoping to return when the racing is on next time.

Gostou What can I say. WOW. We booked this last minute and we weren’t disappointed. Check in was easy and straight forward. We were shown to our plot which had amazing views. The facilities were way better than expected and it was very quiet and peaceful. Will definitely be back 😀

Atrações locais

Hexham (five minutes' drive) is a lovely place for a wander, with lots of independent shops and cafés as well as its Grade I-listed abbey and the Hexham Old Gaol museum. Just a little further east is Corbridge (15 minutes), best known for the Corbridge Roman Town English Heritage site. That’s just one of the sections of Hadrian’s Wall you can visit nearby – other top spots include Vindolanda and Housesteads Roman Fort (both 25 minutes). Heading to the east, you’ll reach Newcastle in about half an hour to see the famed Tyne Bridge and visit the city’s numerous museums and arts venues. There's also the option of some time on the beach at Whitley Bay (45 minutes’ drive). For a total change from urban life, set off to explore the North Pennines National Landscape or Northumberland National Park – for the latter you may like to start at The Sill National Landscape Discovery Centre (25 minutes) for an introduction to the area. There are lots of excellent places to visit, but a highlight must be Kielder Water (an hour), for its watersports and dark sky observatory.
