Stake your claim for a prolonged stay at the spectacular Peak District pod place of Slate House Farm, a small countryside site set on a working farm nine miles from Chesterfield. Although small and never crowded, this lush site has proved rightly popular with guests, who wax lyrical about its vies, its setting, its facilities and its friendly vibe. The site has outstanding views over the Derbyshire countryside and is surrounded by ancient market towns, swathes of country estates and walking, cycling and mountain biking trails for intrepid adventurers. Anglers (fly and coarse) can cast off about a mile away; Matlock is within three and a half miles, and it's but a 20-minute drive from the farm to the heady sightseeing of the Heights of Abraham, where strong-minded sorts can bob about the landscape in a cable car. Slate House Farm is fably set for Peak District family days to suit all flavours too, with famed Chatsworth House within 10 miles and even more famed (to small sorts at least) Gulliver's Kingdom within eight. Alton Towers is just under an hour's drive away. The pods each have an ensuite bathroom, a small and well-equipped kitchen, double beds with mattresses, and a TV and DVD player. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed on site.

Perfect location for getting out in the Peak District.
Marshmallows and fire wood provided! Lovely touch!
Drinking water provided.

Não gostou Lost some water heat during the Saturday… possibly due to water pressure?
Wasn’t a problem to us and certainly did not ruin our stay.

Gostou My young son really enjoyed the animals on site. The staff/owners were really friendly, the location was great, and the pod very cozy and comfortable.

Não gostou Not really any dislikes, although the heater was quite loud. But did a decent job of heating the pod on what was a very cold night outside.

Gostou Pod impeccable with all what you would need, including bedding, towels and full equipped kitchen. Double bed and single bed very comfortable Great service, owner very friendly and ready to help if asked. Only down is that due to small space is not suitable for 4. To accommodate the foldable single bed for the 4th person, have to empty the floor space where is the small table and luggage. More appropriate for a couple alone or a couple with only one small kid. Amazing that dogs are so welcome, very grateful of that!

Gostou We loved our stay! The owner was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Nice touches like the marshmallows and treats on the table on arrival. Wood for fire pit provided and included in the price. Really good value for money. Water provided aswell.

Não gostou The curtains to the door of the pod could do with being blackout as you can see right through into the pod which doesn’t give you much privacy. Tap water is also unusable but bottle water was provided!

Gostou We liked everything. The pod was spotless clean- really pleased with that and cutely decorated. We received few welcome treats for the campfire. The host was welcoming, he brought firewood for campfires and made an extra journey to deliver it to us. Bottled water is needed but that’s fine by us. In the kitchen was everything we needed. The third and the fourth bed are smaller so preferably for children. Thank you so much. We will definitely come again.

Gostou Absolutely incredible farm and owners. The pods were super clean, warm and incredibly cosy with the small details like decorations, fragrance, gift basket, clean bedding, towels and extra blankets. Just lovely. We were given plenty of wood and fire starter. Highly recommend this place. Thank you so much

As well as Gulliver's Kingdom and Alton Towers (well, after Gulliver's Kingdom and Alton Towers), kids of a certain trainspotting disposition might like a puff around the National Tramway Museum, set in the period village of Crich Tramway Village. Trams are here to chuff along on, there are woodland walks and a nature trail, and indoors has exhibits on 100 years of tram history as well as the interactive displays of the award-winning Stephenson Discovery Centre. As long as you don't utter the words 'stately home' too soon, kids should also like a day at Chatsworth House, where there's a farmyard and zipwiring, and Bolsover Castle, (30 minutes), the spectacular 17th-century fort with regular kid-friendly events. Somewhat more grownup times can he had at Haddon Hall, also within 30 minutes. You must def meander around the small villages of the Peak District while here too, as each are famed for their own individual thing: have tarts at Bakewell (25 minutes), hone your footballing skills at Ashbourne (40 minutes) and see the spas of Buxton, 45 minutes away.
