Escape from messy desks, busy inboxes and fume-filled commutes with a peaceful fresh-air stay among grownups only at Barley Meadow Touring Park, a dog-friendly site under five minutes’ drive from the Devon village of Crockernwell. As it's in Dartmoor National Park, this is a top spot for hikers and bikers with a yen for exploring far-off places: the 117-mile Two Moors Way (which stretches from Ivybridge to Lynmouth) passes 10 minutes’ walk from the site, and National Cycle Route 27 and the Granite Way walking trail can be joined 15 minutes’ drive away in Okehampton. Closer to home, you can stroll next door to the farm shop to select goodies for your dinner. There’s plenty more to investigate around splendid Dartmoor, but of course… but not before kicking back for a bit on site… Stock up on snacks in the on-site shop (open subject to demand) while letting canine chums run off-leash in the dog area, or plan outings and pick up ideas for local walks, activities and visits in the little information centre. All sound a bit too rural? Never fear, as the site’s central and easy to reach: it’s just off the A30, and there’s a bus stop right outside the site entrance for trips to Exeter and Bude. Eco-friendly drivers can charge their electric vehicles using the EV point on site too.

Polubione The hosts were absolutely amazing. Leigh was very approachable, lovely and easy to chat too. Excellent site for the doggo lovers, with great secure run area for the dogs to stretch their legs. Toilets, showers, dishwashing facilities etc were always spotless and clean and free drinking water taps available around site. Good size plots and although you are near a road, I found it to be a nice quiet spot and wasn't affected or didn't notice traffic noise at all. Brilliant touring site and we would highly recommend to anyone, especially the dog lovers out there!! Another benefit, it's an adult only site, (I have a child and grandson), however, it's nice to get away from it all without those kind of distractions at times.

Polubione Great site, the pitches were a good size with excellent toilet/washing facilities. The location is good with the site not being far from the a30. Staff were great and we appreciated the camp shop for any last minute necessities. Everyone was very friendly, it being adults only meant the atmosphere was very chill. Good amount of water points around the site meant you didn't have to walk far, the bothy room was a great addition with the free pool table.

Niepolubione Not an issue with the campsite at all but something to bear in mind, the only downside was the closest village Crockernwell not having any amenities like a pub and the buses from Exeter/Okehampton stop around 6pm. We ended up driving to Okehampton for The London Inn which I would highly recommend for good cheap food and they show the football but of course meant my girlfriend couldn't have a drink at the pub.

Polubione great location if wanting a stop of on route to holiday further into Cornwall. great size pitches, with added bonus of picnic bench on some pitches. Bathroom clean and good size. secure feeling on site. quick access to A30 for moving around Dartmoor or top end of Cornwall. we stayed 4 nights, plenty to do with short drives. dog toilet field on site, but also a secure dog field just 5mins away if you didn't want to walk out.

Niepolubione Local shop in Crockenwell very poorly stocked, however supermarkets in Oakhampton (Waitrose, coop, Aldi) all on same location and nice town to visit. short drive.
septic tank smells if wind was blowing in your direction.

Polubione Good sized pitch, nice and flat and smooth. Really great toilet/shower block which were clean and well built. Nice to have the option of the Bothy for phone charging, a game of pool and a fridge/freezer.

Devoting a few days to rambling explores of Dartmoor National Park is a must hereabouts, with plenty of stunningly scenic spots to include in itineraries. Start with the nearby Teign Valley and the can’t-miss Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in south-west England) – don’t forget a camera to snap some shots of the spectacular White Lady waterfall and the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool. There are more ways to explore Dartmoor National Park than on foot or by bike too: adrenaline junkies can try out whitewater kayaking or canoeing along the River Dart, or head into Okehampton to sign up for scrambling through gorges. History buffs are well served around these parts too: jaunts into Exeter come with possible pitstops at the city’s famed cathedral, medieval guildhall and Tudor-built House that Moved (that one deserves a quick internet search), while rural travels lead to stately manors including Powderham Castle, Castle Drogo, Killerton House, and Buckland and Buckfast abbeys, all within an hour's drive. Poke around England’s last working water-powered forge at Finch Foundry and visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life near Okehampton, or step back into the present day with some kid-friendly fun at Crealy Adventure Park or Diggerland Devon, both around half an hour from the site.
