  • Scenic adults-only dog-friendly site in Dartmoor National Park
  • Haven for hikers and bikers, 20 minutes from Exeter city centre
  • On-site shop, information centre and secure off-lead dog area
Escape from messy desks, busy inboxes and fume-filled commutes with a peaceful fresh-air stay among grownups only at Barley Meadow Touring Park, a dog-friendly site under five minutes’ drive from the Devon village of Crockernwell. As it's in Dartmoor National Park, this is a top spot for hikers and bikers with a yen for exploring far-off places: the 117-mile Two Moors Way (which stretches from Ivybridge to Lynmouth) passes 10 minutes’ walk from the site, and National Cycle Route 27 and the Granite Way walking trail can be joined 15 minutes’ drive away in Okehampton. Closer to home, you can stroll next door to the farm shop to select goodies for your dinner. There’s plenty more to investigate around splendid Dartmoor, but of course… but not before kicking back for a bit on site… Stock up on snacks in the on-site shop (open subject to demand) while letting canine chums run off-leash in the dog area, or plan outings and pick up ideas for local walks, activities and visits in the little information centre. All sound a bit too rural? Never fear, as the site’s central and easy to reach: it’s just off the A30, and there’s a bus stop right outside the site entrance for trips to Exeter and Bude. Eco-friendly drivers can charge their electric vehicles using the EV point on site too.

Power optional grass campsite

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Absolutely loved Barley Meadows. We arrived after a long drive and had a call to say our pitch was ready. Staff were friendly, cheerful and chatty. Nothing was too much trouble.
The site has excellent safety measures on entrance and exit which ensures only guests on site have access.
The site is immaculate and the toilet/shower facilities were impeccable. There was a mix of mature couples and some solo travellers.
Noise was minimal apart from some traffic noise during busy periods however this did not bother us.
There is a little, well stocked shop on site with everything you need from camping needs to bottled beer!
We would definitely recommend this site, you will not be disappointed, we will be back one day soon 😀

Disliked Nothing, noise of the road during the bust times of the day although this didn’t put us off!

Power optional grass campsite

From the manager: Vielen Dank für Ihre Bewertung.

Liked Lovely, clean and very well-maintained site with spacious pitches. A lot of thought and care has clearly gone into making this campsite really quite special.
The owners were very welcoming and helpful. They are very dog friendly too, with an excellent enclosed dog exercise area.
It’s a gem of a place, I would not hesitate to recommend it.

Liked All of it

Disliked Some road noise but didn't really notice after a while.

From the manager: Many thanks for your kind review. With regards to the road noise. Yes we are next to a road, this gives you great access. When in a roof box tent sadly the bushes and hedges are unable to help block any sound out. However we are pleased to see that you would return. Best wishes from Leigh and David.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Very clean site, no litter anywhere and the showers, toilets and wash up areas were spotless.
Good location for walks to Fingle Bridge and Castle Drogo (each about 2.5 miles away).
The bothy was really nice with books and games, and we appreciated the use of a fridge and freezer.

Local attractions

Devoting a few days to rambling explores of Dartmoor National Park is a must hereabouts, with plenty of stunningly scenic spots to include in itineraries. Start with the nearby Teign Valley and the can’t-miss Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in south-west England) – don’t forget a camera to snap some shots of the spectacular White Lady waterfall and the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool. There are more ways to explore Dartmoor National Park than on foot or by bike too: adrenaline junkies can try out whitewater kayaking or canoeing along the River Dart, or head into Okehampton to sign up for scrambling through gorges. History buffs are well served around these parts too: jaunts into Exeter come with possible pitstops at the city’s famed cathedral, medieval guildhall and Tudor-built House that Moved (that one deserves a quick internet search), while rural travels lead to stately manors including Powderham Castle, Castle Drogo, Killerton House, and Buckland and Buckfast abbeys, all within an hour's drive. Poke around England’s last working water-powered forge at Finch Foundry and visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life near Okehampton, or step back into the present day with some kid-friendly fun at Crealy Adventure Park or Diggerland Devon, both around half an hour from the site.
