Paddleboarding, then pub? If that sounds like a pretty fabulous schedule for your day, you’ll certainly want to take a look at Swan Island Camping and Glamping, right in the middle of the Thames (yes indeed) at Radcot. As the name suggests, this site is on an island – and that means river views all around for guests staying here. It also means that paddleboarding isn’t the only outdoor activity you’ll have easy access to – bring your paddleboards or hire them on site, for sure, but you may prefer to bring kayaks or settle in for some fishing. Or you may like to just put your feet up and watch the cruisers, narrowboats and swans gently making their way along the river. And there’s also the option to take a walk, as the Thames Path runs right alongside the site, making this a handy location for those who like a riverside ramble (or, indeed, those taking on the full length of the Thames Path). However you spend your day, you’ll no doubt be pleased to hear that just across the bridge from the site is the lovely Ye Olde Swan pub, a 17th-century inn where you can dine on pub meals or just sip pints in the attractive riverside garden as the sun goes down (or inside by the log fire if the weather’s taken a turn…). This is a fairly simple site, with just toilets, showers and a washing-up area on the facilities front. Faringdon (five minutes’ drive) and Lechlade (10 minutes) are your closest towns for shops and the like.

Preciosa ubicación junto al río con abundante fauna, que ofrece paz y tranquilidad junto con anfitriones excelentes y un pub cercano. Los huéspedes disfrutaron del kayak, paseos y el ambiente tranquilo. Si bien la ubicación y el entorno natural son muy elogiados, algunos visitantes encontraron las instalaciones básicas de baño y ducha anticuadas y sintieron que no justificaban el precio. Las cápsulas son semi-autosuficientes, sin enchufes de red.

Me gustó Lovely location by the Thames with a pub on the othersie of Radcot Bridge. Very quiet.

No me gustó The facilities were basic (not even a freezer for ice packs) and just adequate. Portacabin type toilets and shower s provided only limited privacy. A bit 1980s! The premium price of £35 per night was not justified.

Me gustó Host was really good and really made us feel like home so definitely recommend that to everyone who want just few days off from work and relax in countryside.

Me gustó Lovely camp site with easy access to the river for kayaking and riverside walks. Very good, clean facilities including good standard toilet block and showers. Very friendly welcome by the owner. Great having the pub so close by too. Great base from which to explore the Cotswolds. Highly recommend.

Cabaña pod

Me gustó Great spot. The camping pod by the rivers are fantastic. We were even visited by an otter. Wildlife is everywhere kingfishers, bats, fish and so many birds. It’s truly a slice of Eden. The pub was friendly and food good. Watching the boats pass by and the friendly greetings between ourselves and the people on the boats. Great car parking. Finally super clean. The silence in the morning listening to the birds and the river - golden!

No me gustó Just be mindful semi-off grid. No mains plugs in pods. But hey you’re not there for your iPhone

A walk along the Thames Path is a must, of course, whether that’s a short stroll to stretch the legs or a longer jaunt to places like Kelmscott Manor (an hour's walk) or Buscot Park (two hours). Away from the river, you can also walk to the village of Bampton (an hour and a quarter) to spot its Downton Abbey locations, or find scenic trails in the Cotswolds National Landscape (15 minutes' drive). The Cotswolds area is famously full of gorgeous little towns and villages to visit too – Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold are a couple of favourites, and both about half an hour away by car. If you’ve got the kids with you, check out places like the Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens (15 minutes) and Cotswold Water Park (half an hour) too. For other days out, you could tour the colleges of Oxford, explore elegant Blenheim Palace or wander among the engines of STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway – all are a little over half an hour’s drive away.
