From Diggerland Devon to the Spanish coast

Family fun from £7 per night

Pitchup.com celebrates The Great Outdoors this summer with a range of holiday options from Diggerland to dog-friendly Devon and from timber lodges within monster’s-reach of Loch Ness to chilled out bell tents near to Valencia. With prices from as little as £7 per night for a family of four in August, outdoor accommodation provides a great-value base from which to explore any part of the UK or Europe.

Children of all ages – and quite a lot of parents – find themselves enraptured by Diggerland in Devon, home to ‘all things JCB’ where visitors can drive and operate construction machinery. There are also rides including Spin Dizzy and Sky Shuttle to keep the adrenalin flowing.

Right next door and new to Pitchup.com this summer is the Diggerland Campsite at Verbeer Manor which offers level grass for easy pitching surrounded by trees and views of the Devon countryside. Stay overnight from £7 per night based on a family of four booking a non-electric pitch in August. Diggerland tickets cost £16.99 per person when pre-booked or £19.95 per person if you buy on the day.

For those seeking a rural retreat – with potential monster factor – nowhere beats the new lodges at BCC Loch Ness Log Cabins in Glen Urquhart. The two luxury lodge-style cabins, built from round logs, command uninterrupted views of the Suidhe Ghuirmain peaks: the only neighbours are Highland cattle, sheep, stags and red squirrels. And perhaps whatever lurks in Loch Ness…

Set in 30 acres of attractive countryside, the site is just 15 minutes from Urquhart Castle and 20 minutes from Inverness with its restaurants and specialist shops selling everything from kilts to fishing gear.

Stay in the two-bedroom Capercaillie lodge from £640 for seven nights based on four guests sharing on selected dates in August. A four-legged friend can stay for an additional £30. Bed linen and towels are included and the lodge is fully equipped.

Now just a year old, Wold’s View Touring Park in Market Rasen, Yorkshire offers families 60 generously-sized grass or hardstanding pitches for tents, caravans or motorhomes. The site boasts a small shop selling fresh food and camping necessities such as Calor gas and laundry facilities – showers and toilets are free. Owners Jane and Phil pride themselves on providing a warm welcome to the site, which is located in the heart of the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds within easy reach of attractions such as the Humber Bridge, The Deep in Hull and that quintessential English seaside resort with consistently clean beaches, Cleethorpes.

Stay overnight from £25 per pitch based on four people staying in August.

Celebrating its first summer, Appledore Touring Park near Okehampton in Devon offers 40 hardstanding or grass pitches over eight acres all of which boast views of the surrounding farmland and countryside: an idyllic spot for a family adventure. Free Wi-Fi and underfloor heating in the shower facilities are just two of the mod cons provided by owners Rebecca and Tim, who have planted over 4,500 trees and plants around the site.

The site is on the edge of Dartmoor National Park – blooming with heather and gorse over summer – and the Grade I listed Castle Drogo, designed by Edward Lutyens, is just eight miles away and makes for an ideal day trip.

Stay overnight from £21 per grass pitch based on four people sharing a tent in August. Up to three well-behaved dogs are welcome with each booking.

For those seeking fiesta fun in the sun, the recently-opened Olive Garden retreat outside Valencia - within easy reach of Alicante airport - is the ideal spot in which to siesta and unwind: doze in a super-sized hammock, plunge into the cool pool or enjoy some downtime in the shade of the olive trees.

With wooden furniture and comfortable beds in each tent, this is carefree glamping at its best - Spanish style! Head to the nearby town of Jijona - home of the famous Turron, beloved of the sweet-toothed - or to one of the sandy beaches such as San Juan or El Campello, which are within 15 minutes of the site.

Relax overnight from £38 in the Orange Tree bell tent, furnished with a double bed and two single beds. Price includes a breakfast box delivered to your tent each morning.

Founded in 2009 by former lastminute.com man, Dan Yates, multi-award winning Pitchup.com is a free guide to all types of outdoor accommodation in the UK, Ireland, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Luxembourg, Austria, Poland and Switzerland. Pitchup.com, which currently lists over 5,800 sites, provides users with a simple platform in which they can search and book an outdoor holiday with total ease: the customer journey from landing on the homepage through to booking a holiday can be completed in as little as four pages. The site also goes beyond traditional searches by allowing users to search for accommodation based on more than 80 criteria, such as adults only and campfires allowed, and view nearby events, Good Pub Guide pubs and VisitBritain attractions. It’s also possible to check out water bathing water quality in the surrounding area with data provided by the European Environment Agency. Users can also search on the offers page to find the best deals available.

In 2013 Pitchup.com became the first business of its type to launch a bookable mobile app and site, making the site easily accessible to users of mobile and tablet devices. The mobile site now accounts for 16% of bookings.

Pitchup.com enables users to search for all types of parks and sites from the major brands right through to one-off campsites and unique outdoor accommodation options, which may not have previously had a web presence.
