  • Yurt breaks on a 700-acre farm 20 minutes' drive from Perth
  • Blair Drummond Safari Park and Tay Forest Park within 40 mins' drive
  • Private hot tub for each yurt, with lovely rural views
If you can picture yourself bubbling away in a hot tub while raising a glass to some splendid scenery then it’s likely you’ll be very happy at Bachilton Farm Holidays. This Perthshire site is about five minutes’ drive from the little village of Methven, and it looks out over some lovely rural views. The glamping units have been set up to make the most of that outlook too: you need only exit your yurt to take in the views, although of course the best place to see the scenery from is your own personal hot tub just outside the tent… It’s all nicely comfy inside the yurts too: they’ve been kitted out with a double bed, plus futons (so they can sleep up to six people) plus a woodburning stove and colourful rugs and cushions to keep things cosy. The shower and toilet are in a separate hut a few steps away. Of course, if you’re going to have a glass of something around here, it should really be whisky – and that’s even more true here, as the estate is also home to the Strathearn Distillery. Guests are welcome to use the communal space outside the distillery building, where there’s a pond, a gazebo and picnic tables for your alfresco drinks and snacks. If you’re after something more active for your break, have a chat to the site team about organising things like combat archery or Highland Games activities. There are lots more activities and attractions around here to keep you busy too – and getting out to them should be straightforward, as there’s easy access to the A85 from this spot between Perth and Crieff.

Local attractions

Out into the open air? There are plenty of walking routes around the farm, and other outdoor activities are nearby too: there’s a horse riding centre 10 minutes’ drive away, or you could try the Comrie Croft mountain bike trails (20 minutes) or a canyoning trip in the Tay Forest Park (25 minutes). This is farming country, and you can take a taste of that for yourselves at Stewart Tower Dairy (20 minutes), where you can sample Italian-style ice cream while looking out at the cows that produced the milk. For more exotic animals, plan a trip to Auchingarrich Wildlife Park (half an hour) or Blair Drummond Safari Park (40 minutes). Fancy delving into the area’s history too? Set off for The Black Watch Castle & Museum in Perth (20 minutes), Scone Palace (half an hour) or the Queen Mother’s childhood home at Glamis Castle (an hour). For a full day trip, you could even go as far as Edinburgh (an hour and 15 minutes).
