  • Peaceful glacial glen in a secluded location in Lanarkshire
  • A 10-minute drive from New Lanark and the Falls of Clyde
  • Off-grid riverside campsite; barbecues and campfires allowed
Cartland Craig's is a small and secluded wild-style site in a riverside location in the green Lanarkshire countryside. Although far from the noise and stress of city life, this site is in a convenient location five minutes' drive from Lanark town centre and within an hour of both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Bordered by a rich peaty river full of fish, this site takes things back to basics with its portable toilets and wild-style pitches. There are a few other perks, though, as it's possible to get cooked breakfasts or groceries delivered to the site entrance if you'd rather spend your time on less practical matters. Lots of nature reserves are close by, including a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and it's an easy 10-minute journey to the UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site at New Lanark or the spectacular Falls of Clyde. All sorts of wildlife lives in the glen, with badgers, otters and herons often spotted patrolling the banks of the river. Nearby Lanark has plenty of shops, supermarkets, cafés and takeaways to keep you fed and watered during your time here, and there's also a railway station just over a mile's walking distance from base in case you feel like coming to Cartland Craig's without a car.
