  • Seaside family park 15 minutes' drive from Lowestoft
  • Access to lots of sporting and watersports activities
  • Spa, sports bar, pools, adventure playground, bar and restaurant
Starland Krew and sandcastles for the munchkins, a spa bath, a sports bar, and fish and chip-fuelled smiles all round… guests can pick and mix from a vast menu of family activities at Kessingland Beach Holiday Park, on the gorgeous Suffolk coast just north of the Benacre National Nature Reserve and 15 minutes' drive from Lowestoft. Guests at this seaside site have access to great sports and watersports facilities, playing all sorts of games at the multisports court, shooting down the waterslide into the indoor pool, splashing about in the open-air pool or wallowing contentedly in the adjacent hot tub. For the under-11s, the kids' clubs have activities to please sporty, arty and smartypants types alike and there’s an undercover play area and an outdoor adventure playground too, with a zipwire for the intrepid and swings and slides for those who prefer more placid playtime. Whatever activity you select can be followed up by gathering all ages for something from the frisky programme of family entertainment for the evenings. Aside from the chippy and other takeaway food, the on-site Boathouse bar and restaurant serves up a good range of grub. Go on, have that pudding – there’s a lovely beach right outside where you can stroll it all off.

What customers say

Great spot near the beach, with lekker spacious pitches and helpful staff. Restaurant and pools a hit with families. Downsides: loos/showers a bit tired and not always clean, Wi-Fi and noise can be iffy. Touring pitches can get soggy in the rain.

Liked The restaurant was really good, lots of offers on.
Maria who does the morning, was super friendly and customer service was excellent.

Disliked However the camping and touring was diabolical.
Flooding on the site where we were.
Showers run cold and after a few seconds, wasn't very clean, very dated.

Liked This is the third time we have stayed at this park, which for us the main attraction is the outdoor heated swimming pool and the occassional game of bingo.

Disliked Unfortunately on this occassion, the pool was very dirty and the water was much colder than on previous visits and on one occassions the showers were not working. We stayed for 10 days and the weather was dreadful and unfortunately our pitch completely flooded on the second day and remained sodden for the rest of the duration, so we spent a lot of time wading through puddles. We even had our own duckpond, complete with duck swimming around and required a tractor tow to extricate our motorhome from the pitch!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (large)

Liked Great facilities, clean, heated toilet and spacious pitches. Wi-Fi is good but doesn't stretch to all pitches.

Disliked Road had lots of substantial potholes, one of which i tripped in due to no light in camping area, and broken streetlights on main path.

Disliked the showers were a bit cold maybe you could ave them on seperate gas bottles to the washing up section as it seemed everyone wanted to shower and wash up at the same time

Electric grass pitch

Liked Close to the beach

Disliked No hot water in the showers for 4 days, member of staff told us the hot water is unreliable, I complained to the reception staff and they said they were unaware of the problem but 3 days later still no hot water, hearing small children and grown adults crying because of how cold the water was, not funny.

From the manager: Hi Linda,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

While we're pleased to hear you enjoyed the park's location and proximity to the beach, we're sincerely sorry to learn about the lack of hot water in the shower facilities during your stay.

We completely understand how disappointing and uncomfortable this must have been, particularly for families with young children. Having access to reliable hot water is a basic expectation, and we're very sorry that this fell short during your visit. We can appreciate how frustrating it must have been to raise the issue and feel that it was not resolved during your stay.

Please be assured that your comments have been shared with the park team and will be reviewed thoroughly.

Thank you again for your feedback, and we apologise for the inconvenience caused. ^EC

Local attractions

The nearby seaside towns of Lowestoft (15 minutes' drive) and Southwold (20 minutes) are among the most charming in the country: think fab family beaches, candy-coloured beach huts, piers and proms, plus buckets and spades of old-school charm. Aim for the former if you're after a bit of watersports action, or pick the latter for chi-chi shops, a zany pier attraction and seafront walks to Walberswick. Swap beaches for beasties with family outings to see the exotic beasts roaming the plains of Suffolk at Africa Alive! (five minutes), or seek out seahorses, sharks and penguins at Sea Life Great Yarmouth (35 minutes). For wildlife of a more local variety, nip up to the waterways of the Norfolk Broads (half an hour) where you can become captain of your own boat for the day (or take a tour if you're unsure of your navigational expertise…) For family fun on a grand scale, head to Pleasurewood Family Theme Park (25 minutes); at the opposite end of the spectrum is the tiny townscape at Merrivale Model Village (35 minutes). And somewhere in the middle is the swish Victorian pad at Somerleyton Hall (half an hour), where both mansion and gardens are worth a stroll.
