  • Adults-only glamping near Market Drayton in rural Shropshire
  • Five minutes’ drive to the Shropshire Union Canal and Joule’s Brewery
  • Stylish pods and welcome packs; shops and pubs five minutes’ drive
Adults-only glamping pods. Stylish open-plan living and sleeping areas. A peaceful location in Shropshire countryside. Yes, it’s three big thumbs up for Orchard Cottage Rural Retreats at Pell Wall, a five-minute drive from Market Drayton. So what can you expect at the pods? A welcome pack full of local goodies for starters, plus a comfy sofa bed, TV, dining area and a natty kitchenette with all mod cons – including that all-important coffee machine for a morning caffeine blast. And somehow in these clever Tardis-like spaces, they’ve found space for a double bed and a fully-equipped shower room. Outside each pod, there’s a sheltered deck and a small seating area with views over the site to farm fields. Any canine companions (please note – only one pod is dog-friendly) can have zoomie sessions in the secure dog exercise area next door (charges apply), and there are scenic walks right on the doorstep. You certainly won’t have to worry about the car when you’re heading out for the night either, as there’s a cracking local pub right at the end of the campsite’s private drive.

The Laurels camping pod (no pets)

Liked: Everything. Big, spacious, well equipped, clean & tidy, brilliant welcome pack, garden furniture was comfy, cannot find fault with it. Top feature was that England won the rugby on their television, they never do on my telly at home.

Disliked: Nothing wrong at all

The Laurels camping pod (no pets)

Liked: Well equipped pods on a small and quiet site. Very clean unit and on arrival a small welcome pack was a nice surprise. Pod had a lovely kitchen that had all the equipment and mod cons that you might require during your stay. Shower was lovely and hot. Nice little patio to sit on in front of the pod when the weather allowed. Site well suited and positioned for my needs. Pub within walking distance but did not get to use it this time. Would return to this site.

The Beeches camping pod (pet friendly)

Liked: We loved the coziness and cleanliness of the pod and the little extras provided!(little slippers and gingerbread plus toiletries) So clean and well kept…it was pet friendly and we didn’t take ours but you would not have been able to tell if a dog had been in there! Loved the fact the site was so quiet and adult only. Thank you Yvonne for being friendly when we saw you after our night out in a lovely little town. Really liked The Red Lion (Joules Brewery) and The Hippodrome and also The Four Alls for Sunday lunch! We had a lovely walk from the pod to town via the canal but beware it’s muddy and my sandals got a bit muddy…we didn’t date risk the walk back this way after a few drinks! Nice sat outside in the evening with our candles on and a lovely throw provided in the pod. It was perfect! Don’t hesitate…we visited the Hawkstone Follies and they too were AMAZING!

Disliked: Nothing!

The Beeches camping pod (pet friendly)

Liked: Beautiful location and fabulous little pod with everything you need for little holidays. Nearby pub (walking distance) offers nice food and nearby town (Market Drayton 5 minutes in a car) has some lovely walks and worthy a visit and tasting session local brewery with attached pub. Can't fault this place, which gives you the chance to immerse yourself in tranquility of its surroundings.

The Laurels camping pod (no pets)

Liked: Really peaceful location, the pod was spotlessly clean with everything you could need. Beautifully done out. Bed was very comfy, Yvonne the hostess was lovely & even bought me over a fan as it was really hot day/night. Didnt want for anything. Thouroughly enjoyed my stay, perfect if you want to get away from everything.

Disliked: There is nothing to fault!

The Beeches camping pod (pet friendly)

Liked: It was a perfect bank holiday getaway. The pod (pet friendly) was amazing much bigger than we expected, it was absolutely spotless and we got a lovely welcome basket with essentials and some beautiful gingerbread. There is lovely pub a short walk up the lane serving meals all day, I can recommend the Sunday lunch. The hosts Yvonne and John couldn’t do enough to make sure our stay was perfect. We will definitely be returning.

Local attractions

Like the sound of romantic waterside walks? Stroll the Shropshire Union Canal towpath past colourful narrowboats or have a potter along the River Tern (both from Market Drayton, five minutes’ drive) and keep an eye out for otters and kingfishers along the banks. There are lovely lakeside walks at Hodnet Hall Gardens (especially pretty when the trees turn gold in autumn), and colourful laburnum tunnels and waterfalls to discover at The Dorothy Clive Garden (both 15 minutes). If you’d rather be out and about on two wheels, there are several looped rides from Market Drayton taking in Shropshire churches, pubs and viewpoints, all along quiet country lanes. Back in Market Drayton, you can tour the manufacturing process and taste the ales at the famous Joule’s Brewery – and don’t forget that the town is the ‘Home of Gingerbread’ – pick some up as tasty souvenirs from local bakeries. If this inspires you to sample the best of Shropshire produce, buy some locally sourced chutneys, honeys and preserves at Fordhall Organic Farm (10 minutes).
