General

  • Shaded family site near the fine white sands of La Franca beach
  • Library, outdoor films, play areas, pool and recreation room
  • Bar serving tapas and restaurant serving Asturias specialities

Watersports, surfing and fishing are all available here, at high tide in the natural pool made by the incoming waters tiptop for deep sea fishing. At low tide, fish in the small creeks of the huge sandbank visible with the water's retreat, or clamber over the sands to reach other well-known sands like Bear beach and Mendia beach, or Regolgueru beach among the cliffs.

The beach is surrounded by prehistoric caves and monuments, and within easy reach of the Picos de Europa mountains for hiking, mountain biking, cycling, horse riding, climbing and canoeing. Or you could decide to take things most easy indeed, by bagging a book from the Camping Playa de la Franca library to find your own secluded spot on the beach – since sands, sun and a ripping yarn are possibly the best holiday combo ever.

Although it's so close to such spectacular sands, you should sort significant time on site at Camping Playa de la Franca too, as there's loads to get stuck into at this scenic and well-equipped place. Kids have outdoor films to goggle at, a kids' area and a junior area to play at, and a pool for all ages to splash around in alongside the grownups.

If you're seeking sanctuary indoors on a hot Asturias day, keep your cool with an hour or two in the recreation room, or toddle back to the library for games, board games and another book. Food is no faff here either: the site bar serves tapas, roast chicken and ice cream, and the restaurant dishes up specialities from Asturias including a full school of local fish.

A grocery shop is on site too if you need it, to sort the likes of fruit and veg, bread and pastries, milk and ice.

Space for our car trailer and motor home, welcome from owner, location. A short walk to an outstandingly picturesque beach, with bar open for drinks in evening. A special spot. Ate at a fantastic Mexican restaurant in a nearby village .

Would have like the restaurant to be open in the evening-perhaps it was because it was a Monday?

Fantastic location, friendly staff. Absolutely stunning beach a few minutes walk
Nice pool- swimming hats mandatory as with most of Spain.

    Disliked:

Pitch they assigned to us had a whacking great big tree root in it, so had to pay extra to move to a bigger pitch.
The showers are so hot they almost peel your skin off !!
Not really set up for motorhome. The drive over waste is right at the other end of the site and with so many kids on the site, very difficult to get to - empty before you get there

This is a really great campsite. It's busy and bustling with people and kids, but has a friendly atmosphere, with lots going on. There are loads of toilets and showers, which a cleaned non stop! The pool is perfect as well and surprisingly quite given how big the campsite is, but I guess that is also because the nearby beach is stunning and great for swimming, SUP, snorkeling and boogie boarding. Fresh bread in the morning, baked on site. There is also a mini cinema for kids (in Spanish) and a play park. There is also a restaurant which we had a simple, but enjoyable meal at.

    Friendly at reception

    Disliked:

    Unclear pitch markings
    Noisy
Ineffective security when people are loud in middle of night
€2.20 for a can of pop when you have 4 children is a bit rich.
My children were asked to leave an empty swimming pool because they did not have swimming hats. The swimming pool was devoid of children because no one had swimming caps (maybe this is the plan??). This was crazy and upsetting for my children after a 6 hour drive.

From the manager...

From the manager...

Thank you for your opinion.
The month of August is high season in our campsite, which is especially designed for families with children.
Outside of that period of high occupancy, the campsite is quieter, and we will be happy to welcome you back in those days so you can check it out

Local attractions

As well as the watersports, fishing and creek paddling of splendid La Franca beach (that'll be the first week sorted, then), you can get to all sorts of outdoorsy days easily from here.

The famed Picos de Europa mountains 20 kilometres inland from the Spanish coastline span the Autonomous Communities of Asturias, Cantabria and Castile and León as part of the Cantabrian Mountains. Hiking, mountain biking, cycling, horse riding, climbing, canoeing and kayaking can all be sorted among their peaks, as well as access to some of the world's deepest caves in Torca del Cerro, Sima de la Cornisa, Torca los Rebecos and Pozo del Madejuno.

Even closer, the prehistoric cave of El Pindal is six kilometres from the site, near the town of Pimiango on the Cantrabrian shoreline. It's part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Cave of Altamira and Paleolithic Cave Art of Northern Spain; if you want to delve deeper into the region's ancient history, the prehistoric rock art centre and museum of Tito Bustillo is about 40 kilometres away at Ribadesella.
