Camping Playa de la Franca

As well as the watersports, fishing and creek paddling of splendid La Franca beach (that'll be the first week sorted, then), you can get to all sorts of outdoorsy days easily from here. The famed Picos de Europa mountains 20 kilometres inland from the Spanish coastline span the Autonomous Communities of Asturias, Cantabria and Castile and León as part of the Cantabrian Mountains. Hiking, mountain biking, cycling, horse riding, climbing, canoeing and kayaking can all be sorted among their peaks, as well as access to some of the world's deepest caves in Torca del Cerro, Sima de la Cornisa, Torca los Rebecos and Pozo del Madejuno. Even closer, the prehistoric cave of El Pindal is six kilometres from the site, near the town of Pimiango on the Cantrabrian shoreline. It's part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Cave of Altamira and Paleolithic Cave Art of Northern Spain; if you want to delve deeper into the region's ancient history, the prehistoric rock art centre and museum of Tito Bustillo is about 40 kilometres away at Ribadesella.
