Quite a splash of Catalonian colour is around Càmping Valldaro. It's mighty pretty and colourful on site for a start, but its setting means you'll also be between the blue of the sea and the green of the surrounding mountains, close to the white sands of the Costa Brava beaches… and all around the brightly ancient municipality of Castell-Platja d'Aro. Valldaro is in a natural setting filled with palm trees, shrubs and flowers, with a good deal to do on site including a swimming pool with Jacuzzi and paddling pool, a playground and stacks of space in which to soak up the Spanish sunshine. International newspapers, bread, wine and quite a bit more are for sale at the two supermarkets for those sorting their own eats/beach picnics, but if you want your food served up to you, the Valldaro restaurant serves a variety of local dishes and pizzas as well as takeaways. Valldaro has four toilet blocks with disabled access, laundry room and washing-up facilities. Sports tournaments, a kids' club, theme nights and parties are all arranged in high season.

On the Perpignan-Barcelona AP7, take exit 7 signposted Girona Sur. Follow directions for Platja d'Aro and take exit 314. Continue towards Platja d'Aro, you will find the campsite on the right.

Local attractions

Càmping Valldaro is in a super setting: on the coast, close to shops, attractions and nightlife, and with easy access to local transport links. It's also close to Castell-Platja d'Aro, the popular Costa Brava place made up of the old medieval village of Castell d'Aro and the coastal town and two-kilometre beach of Platja d'Aro. The main beach at Platja d'Aro connects to several smaller ones via the Camí de Ronda, the old pathway built among the Costa Brava coast in the nineteenth century as a (misguided) attempt to thwart the local smugglers. It's used these days as a network of public paths to connect several tourist towns along the coast, so find it and potter if you'd like to try some traditional Spanish strolling. One of the more swish parts of the Costa Brava is at nearby S'Agaró, walkable from Castell-Platja d'Aro just along the coast and a place so favoured by dramatic types that it was nicknamed Hollywood by the Sea. It's still a posh place these days, so mosey along and have a nose at its villas in suitably envious manner. This is a lively area all around: ask the Càmping Valldaro team for info and tips on local events throughout the year, such as the nearby beer festival, medieval market and carnival.

Liked: Distance to town, helpful staff

Disliked: For us the site was a little too big, the supermarket was poorly stocked and only one open, entertainment for kids but not adults and the music went on til 2345 which is late as it is very close to pitches.

Liked: Facil acceso. Parcelas amplias. Camping familiar. Seguridad nocturna excelente. Limpieza camping excelente. Lavabos y fregaplatos siempre esta el personal en constante limpiando.

Disliked: Robos, poca responsabilidad en los echos. Seguridad diurna escasa. Con camping semi-completo se pide cambio de parcelas a mejor y respuesta negativa.

Liked: Der Campingplatz War super . Toiletten und duschen wurden ständig gereinigt. Sehr schönes Schwimmbad. Das Abendprogramm war immer schön . Personal auch immer freundlich . Wir werden auf jeden Fall wieder hin fahren. Im Supermarkt bekommt man alles was man braucht.
