- Remote site at a mountain vineyard 500 metres above sea level
- Skadar Lake National Park 15 minutes’ drive and Petrovac half an hour
- Communal kitchen and chillout area; herbs and fruit to pick on site
Well, if you’re after a spectacular view for your holiday in Montenegro, you’ll certainly get one at Rudinica BaseGlamp. In an old vineyard at 500 metres above sea level, this site has stunning views of dramatic Paštrovska Gora peaks and is set between the Adriatic coast and the forested valleys of Skadar Lake National Park.
The mountain vineyard has been run by the same family for several generations. There's plenty of fresh mountain air up here, as well as biodiversity. In the local area, keep your eyes peeled for wildlife (including rare and protected species) and medicinal herbs that can be picked. Historical sites from medieval times to the 20th century are also within a short drive of the site.
The site is terraced (all the better for those mountain panoramas), and guests can make use of a spacious and well-equipped communal kitchen with a relaxing lounge area and a large shared dining table. Facilities include two showers – one outdoor and one in a cabin – together with a composting toilet.
For any lazy siesta moments you care to have, there are hidden corners where you can set up a hammock or just chill on daybeds under the walnut and cherry trees.

Local attractions
Behind the camp is one of the highest peaks in the Paštrovačka Gora range, so hikers should grab a pair of sturdy boots and get underway; you’ll be rewarded with stunning views over summits right to the Adriatic Sea. There are also easier trails to follow along the Orahovštica River, where you’ll happen upon waterfalls and secluded swimming spots (an hour’s walk).
Peaceful Skadar Lake National Park (15 minutes’ drive) is a magnet for birdlife like Dalmatian pelicans, herons and eagles. See them up close on a trip in a traditional flat-bottomed wooden boat. Most adventures in the park start at Virpazar (also 15 minutes), a historic waterside town with a fortress overlooking the lake and shops selling local Vranac wines and grape brandies.
For a day down on the Adriatic coastline, take the scenic switchback route to Petrovac (half an hour), a laidback resort where you can explore Kastio Fortress and its gun emplacements, relax on the sand-and-pebble beach backed by forested hills and stride out along the Reževići coastal hiking trail.
