Traditional yurt with outdoor seating

  • Traditional yurts in Bikal village, 20 minutes’ walk from Élménybirtok
  • Mecsek Mountains 45 minutes’ drive; UNESCO sites in Pécs 50 minutes
  • Kitchen equipment, outdoor seating and private bathroom at each yurt
Imagine this: waking up in a traditional Mongolian yurt deep in the Hungarian countryside, and sipping on a hot brew in your private outdoor space, where you can watch cattle, goats and sheep grazing contentedly in neighbouring fields. That’s a typical morning at Bikali-Jurta, 15 minutes’ walk from Bikal village in Southern Transdanubia and surrounded by greenery – it’s very much a back-to-nature sort of place, as you may be able to tell from the animals. As well as a small garden area, each handcrafted wooden yurt has its own kitchen corner and convenient exclusive-use bathrooms in wooden huts right next door. On chillier evenings, set about lighting the woodburning stove in your yurt and settle in with a good book or for some late-night snacking at the dining table. Large replenishments of supplies can be done at supermarkets within 15 minutes’ drive, but there’s a shop in Bikal for your day-to-day grocery needs. It’s also home to an amusement park with a medieval theme, and the village has good public-transport options if you’d like to explore further afield.
