It's free, quick and easy!
- High-end site by the Lez river in Suze-la-Rousse
- 10 minutes from the cross-country A7 (Autoroute du Soleil)
- Outdoor pool, restaurant and spa area with hot tub and massages
A bit of luxe and a bit of nature – now there’s a mighty pleasing mix. Swish Camping Suze Luxe Nature serves a generous helping of both, all on a tree-filled site by the Lez river in Suze-la-Rousse.
Let’s start with the luxe elements (you’ve earned it, non?)… how about an outdoor swimming pool with sun terrace (bien sûr) and a spa area with bubbling hot tub, Nordic bath and a visiting massage service? Suitably smart bathrooms in a renovated stone building? Even the bikes are fancy here, with an option to hire electric bikes to make pedalling around the place as effortless as can be.
Then on to the nature side of things: plenty of space to roam around the site’s own gardens (saying bonjour to the hens and checking in on the veg plot as you go), and easy access to the hikes and bike rides (plus jogging routes if you insist) that take you out to see more of the Drôme region. Canoe trips and horse riding are within a half-hour drive too, and you can always slip off to a far corner of the site to dip a fishing rod (or yourself) into the river’s waters.
In the spirit of taking things easy, you may choose to stay on site for eats at the restaurant (bonus: you can keep an eye on the kids in the playground) or take the five-minute amble to the town centre, where a small clutch of restaurants, bars and shops await (including a rather pleasing number of wine merchants).

Local attractions
Start your Drôme days with a saunter around Château Suze-la-Rousse – it’s a mere five-minute stroll from the site to the medieval castle and its gardens. It’s also home to the fab wine-tasting days and weekends of the Université du Vin; if you’d prefer your tipples a little less cerebral you can always just grab a bike and pedal off to one of the wineries scattered around the local area.
If you’ve got the tiddlers in tow, skip the vineyards and see the scenery from a canoe trip through the stunning Gorges de l’Ardèche, 45 minutes away, or on a horse/pony trek; a riding centre is 15 minutes away for lessons, treks or carriage rides.
Fuel up for those active days with a trip to Montélimar (40 minutes’ drive), where you can learn all about sweetie making at the Palais des Bonbons et du Nougat before filling up on sugary treats in the shops. If you’d rather bypass the sugar highs, steer the small sorts instead towards the crocodile farm in Pierrelatte (20 minutes) or the troglodyte village at Barry (20 minutes).
