It's free, quick and easy!
- Welcoming family-friendly site along the Bonnette river
- A five-minute stroll from Caylus; walks leading from the grounds
- Pool, restaurant, terrace, play area, library and river play
Go south, go south… and come to Caylus, the lush little medieval village deep in the Bonnette valley between Quercy and Rouergue: humans have been settling in these pretty parts since prehistoric times, and jolly sensible of them too.
And as you may have heard that the south of France can get a tad toasty in its temperatures? Be jolly sensible in picking your place to rest in between your Caylus and Tarn-et-Garonne adventures, and retreat to a cool and shaded riverside site at Camping de la Bonnette.
Set by the river it’s named after, Camping de la Bonnette provides a peaceful place on a roomy site with lawns surrounded by trees and hedges. There’s loads of space to seek shade from the sun – or to soak sun up if that’s what you prefer – and plenty of leisurely pursuits to keep all ages busy, including a centrally-set pool with shallow area and sunbathing space with loungers alongside.
Caylus – and its shops, bars, restaurants and twice-weekly farmers’ market – is five minutes’ amble from the site; you won’t even have to stir that far for your morning eats, as the local baker delivers fresh bread every morning… If you’re having an idle day on site, the acclaimed restaurant is open to locals as well as guests, and snacks and drinks are served throughout the day. As night falls, the restaurant opens for dinner and warms up its terrace patio heaters, so you can stay outdoors and toasty right through the evenings.
Camping de la Bonnette has a play area, ping pong tables, pétanque and volleyball courts, a trampoline and a library with books, games and magazines.

Local attractions
Stick close to the site or drive for short distances to get out into the countryside: several signposted walks start by the grounds (pick up a map from the Bonnette team) and horse riding, mountain bike rental and canoe rental for trips down the Aveyron are all close by.
Local town Caylus is close to the Aveyron, Lot and Tarn rivers for more cooling waterside days: this is a stunning setting and a wildlife haven, so set off with a picnic and find your own hidden spot among the forests, valleys and green hillsides. For something a bit more organised, ninth-century Château de Cas is five kilometres away and the Middle Ages fortress of the Château de la Reine Margot is within 15 minutes’ drive.
Also much recommended are the exhibitions at Beaulieu-en-Rouergue Abbey (15 minutes), the handsome town of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val (also 15 minutes, and the market is a must), the hillside town of Cordes-sur-Ciel (40 minutes) and day-trip destinations such as Cahors (55 minutes), Albi (an hour and five minutes) and Toulouse (an hour and 25 minutes).
