General

  • In the 16th arrondissement of Paris with shuttle bus to the city
  • Four kilometres from the Jardin d'Acclimatation
  • Café-restaurant, communal lodge and campervan service area

Most travellers around the world hanker after a trip to Paris. Most travellers hanker after saving maximum dosh on holiday too, all the better to have extra euros to spend on splendid French cuisine and vino.

If both these types of traveller are you, you'll be mighty chuffed with the setting of Camping Bois de Boulogne, in the 16th arrondissement of the city and with shuttle buses straight from the site to and from Porte Maillot metro station. Buy tickets and check out the bus times at the site reception, open from 7am until 10pm; tourist info on attractions for all tastes is in this part of the site too, along with free internet points and wifi.

The Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Montmartre, Centre Pompidou and the like will obvs keep you occupied for aeons in Paris, but if you do need a day to your own self in between busy city sightseeing, Camping Bois de Boulogne is well set up for that too.

Take yourself off to the central lodge for a day or evening in, to watch telly, play snooker or table football, challenge your lesser half to a board game, or curl up in a corner with a book on the region from the site library.

In between dining out in Paris (if only for the bragging rights when back home), you'll have an excellent range of foodie options on site, including a café-restaurant selling salads, homemade pizzas, grilled meats, pasta and drinks to have on the terrace. A grocery shop is open 365 days a year and a morning bread and croissant service is available, so you can order goodies in advance to munch in the morning or bag up in a packed lunch.

Also around to keep you occupied are a playground, ping pong tables and summer bike hire – and if your wheels need some TLC, a campervan service area is available for your convenience too.

Easy access for Versailles (reason for trip) and Paris.
Food from cafe very good (used once).

    Disliked:

Road Noise. Very very busy road from early all day and well into the night.
Drunken revellers (one night) on site at 03:30 were not controlled by staff.
Bottle bank sited near huts (used at 05:00 by inconsiderate campers).
Shop on site limited and shut at 20:00.
Caravan (*61) in basic state of decoration, toilet door handle was broken when we arrived, I reported this but staff said yes we know, nothing done !!
Screw from radiator on wall poked through into toilet, cut my finger so I reported it (still like it when we left).
Wi Fi next to useless even in reception.

    Disliked:

Very busy, but to be expected in the city campsite. Could do with more toilets.

Great location, cycle to Paris centre and explore, explore, explore. 09/12/2017

Proximity to Paris centre (by bike), forest nearby, on the border of the Seine, cosmopolitan yet private. Touring pitches good sized but services vary significantly so choose your pitch rather than take their suggestion. Shop and cafe are handy.

    Disliked:

Sanitaires are clean but expect a short queue in August and fair walk. Pitches may or may not have water or waste but there is electric on most. Receiving area is tight for caravans at reception. Waste disposal and recycling points are not well maintained and over-subscribed. Not cheap even via Pitchup (best price in August at 3 days notice we found) @ EUR30+ for a touring pitch.

We liked the bus shuttle service to the metro station in Paris. The size of the tent pitch, close proximity to town to walk to the supermarket, on site shop was convenient but very expensive.

    Disliked:

Mixed toilet and shower facilities which we did not know about until arrival.

Idea city break stop over 09/01/2017

cleanliness, organisation, restaurant, play park, bathroom/shower block, bike hire, convenience of location - Excellent site as a base for visiting Paris.

    Disliked:

Next to a very busy road, no open space within the park. This to me is a base for a city visit, not a relaxed lazy hazy summer break. Ground very hard and gritty...Not easy to pitch the awning tent properly, although we did specify a tourer pitch. No privacy as pitches are very close together. They are mostly separated by hedges though. Make sure you check ouy what seems to be a water treatment plant opposite the park on the river side. It drones on a bit but not noticeable really.

Local attractions

To Paris! France's spectacular capital is of course famed throughout the world for its sights and vibe, so prepare to spend as much time here as poss getting through as many of its attractions as you can. (On one trip, anyway; you could always come back...)

A tourist information service is available at reception and the friendly staff will be happy to share their tips and knowledge on where to visit: among the many highlights and must-sees are the Eiffel Tower; the Louvre gallery; the works of Matisse and Picasso at Centre Pompidou, and the Moulin Rouge and Sacré-Cœur Basilica of Montmartre.

If you're after a peaceful or watery time in or around Paris, wander along the banks of the Seine for a teeny part of its 777-kilometre length (a new walkway, from Tuileries Garden to the Bastille, opened in early 2017), or set off on boat trips on the lakes of Bois de Boulogne, the big public park along the western edge of the 16th arrondissement.

For green times, potter around the botanical gardens of Bagatelle, two kilometres from the site, or investigate the Jardin d'Acclimatation park and amusement park, also in the Bois de Boulogne and home to a kids' art museum, science museum, puppet theatre, miniature golf, pony rides and a narrow-gauge train.

The Auteuil swimming pool is five kilometres from the site, and you can tee off at the Golf Blue Green Rueil Malmaison course, within six.
