  • Family-friendly Brittany site five minutes’ walk from the beach
  • Pénestin five minutes’ drive; Brière Regional Natural Park 10 minutes
  • Restaurant and bar, plus mini farm, large playground and swimming pool
Brittany-bound with the kids? If you’re looking for a place close to the beach and with plenty for all ages to do, have a look at Camping Loscolo. This well-kept site sits five minutes’ walk from the sandy Plage de Loscolo, and on the outskirts of the pretty-as-a-postcard Breton village of Pénestin – it’s just the job when you want to escape city life completely. With spectacular views over the Atlantic Ocean, this family-focused little haven sits among trees and is surrounded by fields and meadows. As well as access to all manner of watersports like paddleboarding or kayaking, plus hikes along the dramatic Morbihan coastline, it has a large playground, a swimming pool and bike hire available, while your kids will no doubt be keen to join in the fun of feeding goats and chicks at the mini farm. And should you need some TLC time, you can book restorative sessions on the hydro-massage table. If you’re intent on self-catering, add fresh herbs or seasonal fruit to your meals from the organic gardens. Otherwise, the restaurant/bar offers a tasty pizza menu as well as paninis and sharing boards, hot drinks dispensers and packaged meals ready for cooking.

What customers say

This campsite boasts a beautiful location near the beach and coastal path. Recent upgrades include a new pool with a lazy river and jacuzzi, plus private bathrooms with kitchenettes. Pitches are mostly flat and spacious, though some found them crowded or with hard ground. Staff are frequently described as friendly and helpful. However, some guests noted cleanliness issues with toilet blocks and expressed disappointment with limited food options and bar/restaurant hours. Wi-Fi coverage was also reported as poor. Ongoing construction and a planned water park were noted.

Power optional grass and earth campsite

Liked 1. The location
2. The swimming facilities
3. The pitches

The location is quite beautiful, right on top of the cliffs and beaches of the Mine d’Or.

Within 10 minutes drive - 20 minute pedal - of the site is the wonderful village of Penestin. A large Carrefour and a good range of independent shops and eateries on the high street. Penestin also has a bustling market on a Sunday morning (0800 - 1300) and during high season, an additional market on a Wednesday morning. NB - Whilst the village has a number of pleasant eateries, booking ahead - they get busy - would be advised.

The newly opened pool is a real gem. Around 10 metres in length and gently sloping it is supplemented by a number of features that are more than enough to keep the younger ones - and older ones - entertained. A lazy river, waterfall, whirlpool and jacuzzi. Alongside this there are areas both inside and outside to relax.

Generally flat, roomy and well shaded pitches although you may be required to work around the roots.

Disliked 1. The toilet blocks
2. The bar / restaurant
3. The swimming facilities

The toilet blocks were 'informally' divided between an adults only block alongside a dedicated family block. The facilities themselves are great, plenty of room, clean, plenty of hot water. However, during the evenings, the adult block in particular became difficult to negotiate. The issue being the way the facility was used by the clientele.

The onsite bar / restaurant was just not up to scratch for the size of the campsite. Extremely limited food choices. Unusual opening times. Austere seating area. Not the kind of place you could decide to go for a meal on the spur of the moment which is exactly what it should be for. Alongside this, whilst you can get food in the village, there is a death of takeaway options unless you're really in to pizza and want to eat before 2000 . . .

The functions supporting the swimming pool aren't yet adequate. There isn't enough of a terrace to relax and be by the pool if you're young ones are still going for it. There aren't adequate toilet facilities. There aren't showers to use before entering the pool.

Power optional grass and earth campsite

Liked Close access to beach, nice new pool facilities.

Disliked Hard ground, pitches are all on top of each other so little space. Toilets and facilities were dirty and didn’t seemed to be cleaned in our 3 night stay. We booked this site 6 months in advance of our stay and requested 2 pitches next to each other as we were travelling in a group. When we checked in, he showed us 2 pitches next to each other on map but they weren’t actually anywhere near each other and had to walk past 15 other pitches to get to each other. One of our kids fell in the brambles at back of our pitch trying to get to the other pitche without the walk round. Very frustrating that the site didn’t inform us that they wouldn’t be able to provide our request of pitches next to each other.

Local attractions

Keen hikers can enjoy jaunts around the Guérande Peninsula or yomps along the craggy coastline, while cyclists pedal quiet lanes with spectacular Atlantic views. If you’d prefer to be out on the ocean, you can learn to sail in Pénestin (five minutes’ drive), along with windsurfing and wing foiling. If even the latter is too tame for you, give paragliding a go off the rust-coloured cliffs at Plage de la Mine d’Or (10 minutes). Inland is the Brière Regional Natural Park (10 minutes) and its network of waterways and marshes; here you can see Highland cattle grazing, watch wading birds feeding in the water and take flat-bottomed punt trips around the wetlands. Mussel farming has long been part of the local Breton heritage, and you can learn more about it at Tréguihier Lighthouse (10 minutes), which has now been repurposed as a museum of the tradition. If the kids need some to let off steam after all that cultural stuff, make a beeline for the Parc de Loisirs et Accrobranche - Monkey Forest - Guérande (20 minutes), where they can scramble around treetop rope courses, clamber up nets and play mini-golf.
