General

  • Secluded site bordered by woodland and a stream
  • Wildlife country in the midst of the Ceredigion countryside
  • Three miles from Lampeter and seven from the Dolaucothi Gold Mines

Everyone, even the cynical, should have a little romance in their lives. Especially if it includes a scenic setting with easy access to local pubs (a holiday extra that thaws the icy hearts of the cynical even more than blazing sunsets).

Teifi Meadows should warm the battery of your camera as well as the cockles of your heart: this is wildlife country – look out for red kites overhead – in the midst of the greenery of the Ceredigion countryside, and close to the walks, dolphin spotting and beaches of the Ceredigion coast and Cardigan Bay.

National Trust sites, River Teifi fishing and canoeing, mountain pony trekking, Roman gold mines and blooming great gardens are in the area too: ask your hosts Jane and Julian for their top sightseeing tips.

For supper supplies to sort alfresco eats and stargazing, the village of Llanfair Clydogau is about a mile away and has a well-stocked licensed shop as well as a post office selling rod licences if you’re plotting to fish on the Teifi.

Lampeter, about three miles away, has plenty of food shops, independent stores and a farmers’ market, and the pub at Cellan, also three miles away, serves food and Sunday lunches. Sunday pub lunches are romantic too...

Facilities were quite dirty and did not seem to be cleaned whilst we were there which was nearly a week. Really bad problem with wasps as soon as you open tent they are there and when you sit outside you cannot relax because they are constantly landing on you and they get through the even the smallest gap in your tent they are really bad, there is also a problem with dogs kept near the site as they bark on and off through the night it sounds like there are kennels near by

The site is very picturesque, slightly sloping and surrounded by trees. The toilet / shower building is clean and tidy with washing up facilities on the outside. Be aware that there are free range hens wandering the site and they very are curious, tents interest them seemingly!!.
The site owner was very pleasant and there is no hassle about being off site by any particular time. We would definitely return there if in that area again. Highly recommended.

Beautiful, sheltered, peaceful stop. Friendly and helpful owners. Toilets are in a lovely lodge type building, lovely hot showers. Campfires and nice views. Great for kids. Swings, tyre swing and play house. Welcome hut with leaflets, maps etc. Hens wander around the site. Idyllic and relaxing. We loved it. You do need to drive to visit local attractions but teifi railway and the castle Dwyfer? Worth a visit. Handy co-op in Lampeter 5 min drive and local shop a few miles away too. Would recommend

From the manager...

Dear Rupert, Thank you for your comments last week when you did NOT stay at our campsite. It is very interesting that you gave us only 2 overall including facilities, customer service and child friendliness. As you declined to stay at the campsite and neither met us, nor took advantage of any of the facilities, and also had no children with you, I cannot imagine how you could feel entitled to rate us. Our campsite is neither abandoned or deserted. The grass is mown tidily denoting pitches and the facilities are more than adequate. We have recently had our campsite review and no problems were identified, and we also received a pitch up rating of 8.2 which I think outlines that we run a tidy successful sight. We are a small family friendly site and not a state of the art commercial undertaking. The state of my home is absolutely irrelevant to the review as the house is not even visible from the campsite so should not even be commented on. However, the flowers and shrubs planted should have given you some indication that we are present. Both my husband and I were working at our two very busy cafes and so were late home that particular evening. As you can see from other reviews which have been very positive, the picture you painted is very detrimental to our business and totally unfair. Whether we are selling our home or not has no bearing on the running of the campsite and we are perfectly entitled to do as we wish without comment.

We found the site in a beautiful location. The site was well - maintained and had good facilities. We loved being able to watch Red Kite soar overhead and listen to other wildlife. Even the young cows munching grass nearby added to the sense of peace and quiet.
We weren't able to get a phone signal but that was not an issue for us but there was somewhere to charge your phone.
We didn't ask about freezing an ice pack but it might have been helpful to mention that on the noticeboard.
We have seen reviews referring to unclean showers. We did find the showers and sinks unclean but it really only needed the previous user to have cleaned up after themselves and rinse the shower and sink and they would have been very acceptable. There seemed to be a constant supply of hot water and there was no additional shower charge.
There was a play house and tyre swing for children but as we didn't have any with us I don't feel we should rate this.
It was good to see that you could have log fires and whilst we didn't take up the option it is good to know for a future visit

Local attractions

Everyone, even the unimaginative, will find something to do in Ceredigion and the Teifi Meadows surroundings, although the choice of what’s on offer may overwhelm dithery types…

Historians of old should start off at the National Trust’s Dolaucothi Gold Mines less than seven miles away, the only Roman mines discovered so far in Britain and a deeply groovy place for underground tours.

Also from the National Trust, 12th-century Dinefwr Castle and its 18th-century landscaped park lies high on a hill above the River Tywi near Llandeilo; and Llanerchaeron house, estate and walled gardens gives a glimpse into how the Welsh gentry lived.

The Trust manages a couple of beaches hereabouts, magnificent Mynt, regarded as one of the best hidden beaches in Europe, and Penbryn, which James Bond fans might recognise from scenes in Die Another Day. Both are on the Ceredigion Coast Path, so don your boots for romantic walks: it’s 11.7 miles to Cardigan from Mynt, and a much more strollable 1.7 miles from Penbryn to Llangrannog.

The colourful Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron is a 6.5 mile walk from New Quay and a day in both is thoroughly recommended: Aberaeron for another spectacular beach, and New Quay for dolphin-spotting boat trips, day-long fishing trips and the only bee farm in Wales. Further along the coast in Aberystwyth, take the Vale of Rheidol Railway up to the smashing falls of Devil's Bridge.
