  • Well-maintained family-friendly site five mins' drive from Porthcawl
  • Rest Bay beach five minutes' drive; 10 minutes to Margam Country Park
  • Play area and plenty of space for games; bus stop just outside
Fancy pitching up near Porthcawl? A fine collection of beaches makes this popular seaside town a great choice for a break on the Glamorgan coast – and Dan-y-Graig Holiday Park, a few minutes’ drive from the town centre, is an equally excellent pick. This well-established family-run park doesn’t have tons of bright lights and noisy entertainments on site – instead the owners have chosen to focus on getting the essentials just right. That means you’ll have access to a launderette, a washing-up room and a chemical toilet waste disposal point as well as modern bathrooms with accessible facilities for disabled guests. That’s not to say that there's nothing for kids to do here – there’s a play area in the touring field (handy for keeping an eye on them while you get on with your life…) and plenty of grassy areas for games. Through the busier periods there are often activities to join in with, too – things like an Easter egg hunt and a summer sports day are popular. You’ll be well located for getting out and about here too – either heading to one of the nearby beaches, exploring the local countryside or hitting the outlet shops to pick up some bargains. It’s all within a short drive, and there's also a bus stop just outside for those travelling on public transport. All round, this is a pretty laidback place to spend some time; groups, dogs, families and solo travellers are all equally welcome at this friendly site. Perhaps the best testimony of all is the fact that many guests return year after year, sometimes forming lasting friendships along the way.

Liked Sarah, the owner of Dan-y-Graig Holiday Park, was so welcoming and helpful from the moment we arrived. The campsite was very clean, with a lovely friendly atmosphere and well-maintained pitches. It’s in a great location too, close to the M4 and within easy reach of the coast and local attractions. A really enjoyable stay — we would happily return and recommend it to others.

Powered grass campsite

Liked The site is clean and really friendly. The pitches are all in the middle (as sites vans around the outside) the park is lovely and there's lots of space to play. The showers and toilets (although far from the pitches) are clean and work well. There's only 2 bit we didn't have an issue with having to wait as they were empty.
The owner was really helpful and there to help with any issues.
It's easy to get to most places on the coast from this site. And it's close to the M4.

Disliked The chemical waste/water and amenities are really far away from the pitches at the other end (where we were).

On our last night a Friday, someone in motorhome (no kids) pitched up right in front of us, completely blocking the view to the park (we have 3 young kids) and used a splitter on the electric. There were other pitches free behind us so it was a bit annoying as we had been there most of the week and it had been ideal to watch the kids. They were quite close pitches side by side. It could be laid out a bit better.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked From the initial hugely welcoming meet and greet to the extensive grass pitch I parked my camper, this site is perfect in every respect. Everything works and it's so peaceful. Short bike ride to the local pubs in the village of Nottage.

Disliked Perhaps another or larger wash basin in Gents shower room?

Liked I had a lovely stay here, it was so friendly and peaceful and the owners couldn’t do enough for me. The gave me a warm welcome on arrival, gave me a lift to the nature reserve and came to see me after my cycling event to ask how it went. All the others using the site were so friendly and welcoming to, a lovely community. The grass was well maintained, there were beautiful flowers, the showers warm and the route to the toilets in the night well lit.

Local attractions

To the seaside first, perhaps? Porthcawl has a good range of beaches to choose from, whether you’d like to hit the waves at Rest Bay for surfing and paddleboarding, build sandcastles at Sandy Bay beach or Newton beach, or launch windsurfers from Trecco Bay. All are just a few minutes’ drive or bike ride away. Elsewhere along the nearby coast, you can scramble through the huge dunes at Merthyr Mawr (10 minutes’ drive), ride horses along the sands at Ogmore-by-Sea (20 minutes) or look out for fossils on the rocky beach at Llantwit Major (half an hour). And of course one can’t forget Porthcawl’s famed Elvis Festival, paying tribute to ‘the king’ every September. Heading inland instead, Margam Country Park (10 minutes) has extensive grounds to stroll through, as well as a small farm area with animals to pet or feed, including alpacas. There's plenty of space to ride your two wheels at Margam, all while being careful not to disrupt the wild deer roaming the park, of course. The country park also packs in an adventure playground and a Go Ape centre for more adventurous folks. Nearby, there are discount shops, a cinema and several restaurants at Designer Outlet Bridgend (10 minutes).
