  • Well maintained and secluded park with views of grassy fields
  • Less than five minutes’ drive to Valley and 10 minutes to Holyhead
  • Porth Trwyn beaches less than 15 minutes’ drive away
How does a peaceful hol in the very northern reaches of north Wales sound? If the answer’s an instant 'yes please', give Pencraig Campsite a go: it's in the Anglesey countryside on a smallholding next to a field full of ponies overlooking grassy green meadows. Pencraig Campsite has a good range of amenities, with modern toilets and showers plus a washing-up area. The sunset views are excellent from this site, creating a serene setting in which to stoke up the barbecue at the end of a day beachcombing around the lovely Isle of Anglesey. Shores within easy driving distance include Porth Trwyn and Church Bay (both 15 minutes); the latter has a café for filling up at as well as a small museum in an old thatched 17th-century cottage. For other eats, the local village of Valley is a five-minute drive from the site just off the island’s main coastal road with its pubs, takeaways, small shops and petrol station. A few bigger supermarkets are on the way to Holyhead less than 10 minutes’ drive away; come here for birdwatching too as it’s the gateway to scenic cliffside walks with the potential for puffin spotting at RSPB South Stack (20 minutes away). If you’ve brought a four-legged friend on the trip – as dogs are welcome at Pencraig Campsite – plenty of places for walkies are about, including around the colourful disused copper mine at Parys Mountain (half an hour away).

What customers say

This peaceful, well-kept campsite boasts lovely rural views and top-notch, modern restrooms. Spacious pitches with hook-ups are ideal for exploring Anglesey and near Holyhead Port. Lacking covered wash-up areas and occasional Wi-Fi/signage issues were noted.

Liked Friendly staff member, lovely pitches, small but quiet and peaceful. The facilities were incredible, amazing showers, toilets and very clean! Showers were very warm with plenty of changing space. Washing up area needed a little TLC but a minor complaint compared to how amazing it all was. We loved having a cup of tea while watching the horses in the next field.

Liked Close to the ferry port. Nice hot showers and no push button. Lovely views.

Disliked Pitches not very level. People on the next pitch connecting their hose to the water tap that was for sharing.

Liked Not a lot!

Disliked Faceless site, nobody at reception to greet just a leaflet with your name and pitch number on. Grass pitches were on a slope. Facilities were good but poor ventilation so lots on condensation in toilets and around the sinks. Washing up area only had one sink, no plug and no hot water if you left it to late afternoon to wash up! Water in bathroom area had signs that stated was not drinking water but so such sign on the washing up sink which looked like it was from the same feed! Due to nobody on site was unsure where to get drinking water from so ended up buying bottles from supermarket. Also today (9/4/26) no hot water anywhere so couldn’t have a shower and again nobody to inform

Local attractions

Anglesey has numerous beaches to comb, including the quiet bay of Rhoscolyn (15 minutes' drive away) with calm, shallow water for paddling or kayaking and Traeth Llydan (20 minutes), a wide, sandy stretch of coastline. Llanddwyn Island is 45 minutes away – visit at low tide to reach it via the sand. For age-old history in between submerges in the sea, the Neolithic-era Barclodiad y Gawres burial chamber is 15 minutes’ drive away and the Bryn Celli Ddu Burial Chamber takes 25 minutes to reach for investigating Wales’ prehistoric history. Slightly more recent heritage can be had on tours of Beaumaris’ castle and old jail; the pretty seaside village is also tiptop for shopping in small independent boutiques and filling up in traditional pubs. Off Anglesey, about an hour and five minutes’ drive away, is the base of Wales’ biggest mountain, Snowdon. If your legs are feeling up to it, hike to the summit – or just take the train…
