  • Friendly rural site half an hour’s walk from Rhosneigr village
  • On the Isle of Anglesey, with views of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park
  • Watersports, golf course and places to eat or drink in the village
Looking for an Isle of Anglesey retreat that feels just right? Trewan Sands Caravan Park, a rural country site 20 minutes’ drive from Holyhead, should be a strong contender for those who want good views and a welcoming atmosphere combined with the convenience of being able to walk to the beach and local village. This friendly site has lovely views of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park and is run by Anglesey locals Fiona and Carl, who are on hand most of the time to offer a bit of help or advice about the area. Families and dogs are welcome on site – and in plenty of places nearby. One of the handiest things about this site is that it’s half an hour’s walk from the village of Rhosneigr, where there’s a beach, golf course and no shortage of places to grab a pint, coffee or a bite to eat. It’s also a popular location for watersports, as well as being on the coast path for seaside strolls. This is a very rural area, near RAF Valley and a railway line (with great potential for spotting occasional steam trains, although do be aware that there can be some train noise), but there's some 5G phone signal and wifi on site. Lively Holyhead and the seaside resort of Trearddur Bay are both a 20-minute drive away, and big supermarkets are in Llangefni, 20 minutes’ drive in the opposite direction. Facilities at Trewan Sands Caravan Park include an outdoor washing-up area and a couple of bathroom blocks; the showers are token-operated, so require a small additional fee. Recycling is mandatory, with recycling bins placed by the entrance to the site.

What customers say

This friendly, welcoming site offers a relaxed vibe. Guests love the spacious pitches and clean facilities. It's a great base for exploring Anglesey, with mountain views and a treat for plane buffs at nearby RAF Valley. Owners are praised for their attentiveness, even in bad weather. Liked Karl the owner was extremely welcoming, nice site and secluded which we wanted.

Disliked Only reason it’s 9 stars out of 10 is that one of the showers was either extremely hot or freezing.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Spacious pitches friendly owners. Very clean and tidy on site and in facilities.

Disliked Need tokens for showers which wasn’t explained on arrival. And only 2 on the field.

Need to separate all waste into recycling and non recyclable which wasn’t explained on arrival and left my son separating it out as we were about to leave.

Very noisy at night with several large families talking until 11pm.

Liked Lovely site
Great owner who was really helpful gave us ideas of places to visit when the weather wasn’t great.
Good base to visit everywhere. Lovely towns and beach 10/15 minutes away.

It is right next to a train line & raf base which our son loved watching the trains and planes. You soon get used to the train noise and don’t really notice it after a while’s

Disliked Nothing

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We're sorry to hear that the location wasn't quite what you were looking for. We do, however, clearly state in our description that we are situated in a rural location, and we also make guests aware that the railway runs past the site and that trains do pass by. We are therefore disappointed that this has resulted in a lower rating, as these are all details that are clearly outlined in our listing before booking.
We also clearly state that the showers are available for a small additional fee of £1 for 8 minutes, so this is also something guests are aware of before they arrive.
Our rural setting is a key part of what we offer, and many of our guests choose us specifically for the peace and tranquillity of being in the countryside. We appreciate all feedback and hope you enjoyed the other aspects of your stay.

Liked There are sheep on the road down, the caravan toilet block are nice and kept clean,

Disliked The road down is awful very bumpy and lots of pot holes, the field is massive but everyone seems crammed together and the camping toilets and shower need a massive upgrade very expensive for what you get, you need tokens for the showers but man never came back again so couldn’t shower all weekend and wasn’t told how to access WiFi, the noise cut off was 11 but people and kids up until midnight being loud

Liked Loved the site, a great host who was very helpful with his advice. The pitches are flat and level with good amenities. By the side of RAF valley so great if you want to watch the planes. A twenty minute walk to the golf course clubhouse where you can stop for a beer and then on into the village. Plenty of eateries, bars and shops with great beaches. We will definitely return.

Route directions

Follow these directions to avoid narrow lanes. After leaving the A55 at Junction 5, turn right at the top of the slip road (if your satnav says to turn left, ignore it because it's a very narrow lane). Go across the next roundabout, then turn left at the next junction. In Bryngwran, continue past the pub (on the left) and take the next left (at the cream house). The route is then straightforward, following directions on Google Maps; look out for a sign on the telegraph post for Trewan House. After the sign, go over a small bridge and cattle grid onto the gravel road. Continue past the two campsites on the left, and keep right down the gravel track through the golf course.

Local attractions

The Rhosneigr area is full of outdoor activities, whether you fancy walks along the coast path, a game of golf with a sea view or having a go at some watersports – there’s a watersports activity centre by the beach where you can rent surfboards, paddleboards, kayaks and wetsuits, as well as signing up for lessons if you need them. If it’s walking you favour, perhaps you’d like to take a stroll through the pines at Newborough National Nature Reserve and Forest (35 minutes’ drive) to reach Llanddwyn beach for views to Eryri and a wander out to Ynys Llanddwyn. There are also some great hikes in the colourful former copper mines at Parys Mountain (40 minutes). For a bit more speed, head to Trac Môn Anglesey Circuit (15 minutes) to watch the races or sign up for driving experiences. Not your style? Make your way to Beaumaris Castle (35 minutes) for a leisurely stroll around the unfinished moated castle.
