Whether you’re into birdwatching, hiking or watersports (or just lazy days at the seaside), there’s something right up your street on the Isle of Anglesey, where Glan Morfa Holidays awaits with glamping accommodations in a wooded valley with coastal views. The site operates a no under-8s policy, so if you’re after a break à deux you won’t have to worry about little kids running about and ruining your romantic mojo. Brew yourself a cuppa (tea, coffee and sugar are supplied) and cosy up with your loved one in the self-catering quarters, which come with comfortable beds and modern bathrooms, plus kitchenettes with all the appliances needed to rustle up simple (or more elaborate, if you’re that way inclined) meals: gas-fired hob, fridge freezer, microwave oven… For provisions, there’s a supermarket in the village of Niwbwrch, just at the end of the B4421 (five minutes’ drive or 45 minutes on foot), which also has a handful of eateries, including takeaway options, and a pub with a beer garden. Now that accommodation and food are sorted, nothing else is required of you other than to chill and enjoy your break. Outdoor seating is provided, so you can sip a glass of wine outside your accommodation while admiring the sunset; when darkness falls, grab a blanket and look up at the spectacular starry displays in this dark-skies area. More active types might decide to hit beaches like Traeth Llanddwyn (15 minutes) or Rhosneigr (20 minutes) for a spot of canoeing and wind- or kite-surfing. Alternatively, there are wooded trails going through Newborough Forest, where you might stumble upon assorted birdlife and red squirrels.

At the Anglesey Transport Museum & Café - Tacla Taid (five minutes’ drive), petrolheads can swoon over classic cars and vintage motorcycles, plus military vehicles and aircraft and a large Land Rover collection. If you’re not into cars and engines, a café on site serves decadent cream teas… On the banks of the Menai Strait, you can take a tour of the salt-making facilities at Halen Môn (15 minutes) and have a guided tasting of the sea salt the company produces.
