  • Small-scale site on a Snowdonia smallholding close to the A470
  • A 20-minute drive to Blaenau Ffestiniog; half an hour to Snowdon
  • Village pub and shop 15 minutes’ walk
With walks around local mountains and lakes or zipwires, subterranean trampolines and mountain biking a short drive away, Camp Stesion is an almost wild camping site which is never too far from outdoorsy activities… that’s very good news for the active sorts. Just as good news for scenery seekers is that this laidback site is in a splendid part of Snowdonia and part of a small smallholding where mornings are marked by mountain views, or perhaps an early start to make the most of Blaenau Ffestiniog, the Zip World Slate Caverns and Antur Stiniog’s mountain biking trails (which are all 20 minutes’ drive away) or to climb Mount Snowdon (you'll have choice of six paths up to the summit about half an hour's drive away). This is a small-scale campsite, so you get almost the same feeling as you would out in the wilds, just with the comforts of toilets, hot showers, an outdoor sink and drinking water. There’s no wifi here, but there's good 4G coverage across the spacious pitches (each of which is about 300 square metres). In addition, each pitch has a firepit. As this is a quiet area next to the village of Trawsfynydd, the peace is kept since loud music and motorhomes are not allowed. Group bookings are also not permitted. Easy to get about? Another tick in the box. The site is just off the A470 and there’s a biking centre just 10 minutes’ drive away. Trawsfynydd is accessible on foot (15 minutes’ walk) – there you’ll be able to grab basic supplies in the village shop or cosy in for a meal in the local pub.

Everything we needed was there

Disliked Hard to find any faults but maybe a path from the parking space to the pod. It rained when we visited so got wet shoes walking back and forth to kitchen/toilet

Fox Den with hammocks cabin

Liked Peaceful with great views and quality accommodation and facilities. Never going to be overrun as there are only 5 pods and a few pitches on site. Great block for shower, toilet and kitchen(which has a full oven/hob!). We'll be back!

Very easy to book last minute and possible to check in late.…

Liked Very easy to book last minute and possible to check in late. Great firepit and hammock areas for sitting with fantastic views of the mountains.

Site manager was friendly and the facilities were good. The hut itself was clean.

This felt like camping but with the benefit of a much better nights sleep.

Disliked Needs slabs laying between shepherd hut and kitchen
Needs more privacy from other pods

We have now laid slate slabs to connect kitchen to Hut and also to hot tub.
A privacy Wooden fence has also been put up even though the hut has it's own private corner of the camp.

Liked I stayed here for 2 nights (solo) and really enjoyed it. Beautiful secluded location with amazing views. Nice big pitches, great facilities. Adult only and no groups or music allowed which made for a very peaceful stay and good nights sleep.

Disliked A little bit of road noise from the nearby main road however not enough to disturb you.

Very nice "glamping" camp ground. view, facilities, all was on point.

Liked The site was so clean, quiet and an incredible scenic place to stay as first time campers, we stayed on the grass-pitch which was well reserved and plenty of room with fire-place, a bench and logs to sit on! We enjoyed every moment and we will most definetly be coming back.

Local attractions

Kicking off your getaway with some action won’t be a problem. Take a 35-minute walk to Llyn Trawsfynydd and you could be hiking, cycling or fishing. Up for a drive instead? Tear up the mountain biking trails of Coed-y-Brenin (15 minutes’ drive) and the downhill runs at Antur Stiniog (20 minutes). Zip World Slate Caverns (20 minutes) has zipwires and underground trampolines for bounces beneath the slate. A little history for you too? Blaenau Ffestiniog (20 minutes) is a historic mining town with plenty of that to explore, or you could tackle the Precipice Walk (20 minutes), a scenic trail that traces the route of an old tramway. There’s really plenty of variety around here to keep everyone busy, from the Pistyll y Cain (20 minutes) waterfall to Barmouth’s seaside amusements and many outdoor activities (35 minutes).
