Lakeside camping field

  • Llŷn Peninsula site 25 minutes’ drive from Eryri (Snowdonia)
  • A 25-minute drive to Abersoch, and 10 minutes from Pwllheli
  • The Peg and Mallet pub, laundry room and on-site fishing lake
With secluded and spacious pitches spread over three fields, family-run Llwyn Ffynnon Caravan Park sits in hilly countryside on north Wales’s Llŷn Peninsula. There’s pretty much everything on tap here for relaxed, open-air getaways with the kids. All pitches have a 10-amp electric hook-ups and running water nearby, and the whole site has free unlimited wifi so teens can stay in touch with their pals. Other thoughtful, family-orientated amenities include heated shower and loo blocks with disabled access and baby-changing facilities, plus a laundry room with washing machine, tumble dryer and sink. You can hire firepits on site, and kindling is also available (for a charge). If you fancy a sociable evening getting to know your fellow campers, head for the dartboard and pool table in the on-site Peg and Mallet pub. There are plenty of well-kept local ales and beers to sample here, as well as more than 30 gins… Anglers, this is also a super spot for you. Watched over by Mr Ducky the heron, the on-site coarse fishing lake is stocked with carp, tench, bream, rudd and brown trout (no charge, but catch-and-release only please). The site caters for divers too, with facilities for refilling diving air canisters at a large bank for multiple fast fills. The town of Pwllheli is close by for bits and bobs from local stores, plus handy takeaways and family-friendly pubs. It’s around 10 minutes to farmers’ markets in posh seafront Abersoch, and half an hour to spectacular scenery in Snowdonia National Park.

Liked Great park nice and clean family friendly close to the beaches only a 15/20min drive in any direction. Great fishing lake ,didn't catch myself but did see someone catch a 15lb Carp. Food served from a van on Thursday/Saturday pub is a good pint.

Lakeside powered grass tent campsite

Liked Everything!! The pub is great and welcoming, the site is spotless including the toilets/showers. The staff were amazing especially Trevor as nothing was a problem and was always happy to help. The fishing lake was good too, my lad spent most of the week on there.

Disliked Nothing!

Lakeside powered grass tent campsite

Liked Lovely site, everyone was very welcoming and helpful. Toilet block and pot wash was clean and spacious. Pitches had plenty of room, electric hook up & water close by. They have a food van that is open at the weekends and helps save cooking or going off site for food. Bar on site was a nice way of bringing their little community together. We stayed during their annual family funday and they had obviously gone to lots of effort to entertain their guests, ending the day with two bands. It was lovely how much effort the guests made to get dressed up, which goes to show how much they wanted to make the day a success as well. We stayed on the lakeside pitch which was a short walk to centre of the site, which was great to be close enough to all the action, but sheltered enough by the trees for the little one to go sleep. There was no children’s park on the site, but plenty of open space for ball games etc so balanced out well. The location was easy to get to and in a great position for visiting pwhelli, Abersoc etc. will definitely be going back in the future.

Disliked We loved everything about this pitch. The only down side for us was we forgot to bring our toilet tent so it was a bit of a walk from the lakeside field to the toilet block, especially with a young child. We know for next time, but everything else was great and we were very happy.

FHU grass travel trailer or tent campsite

Liked Friendly welcome from Trevor. Large pitches. Great pub on site with pool table and darts. Clean amenities with hot showers. We met friends there who bought a caravan and we could be next to each other. Use of firepit with logs sold on site. Fishing lake, although we didn't use it.

Disliked Not enough toilets and showers for 3 fields worth of visitors. Would have been 10 stars if it had another toilet block.

FHU grass travel trailer or tent campsite

Liked Stayed 3 nights 25-28th July and had a really experience. Site was ideal for families, nice, well kept and clean.
Facilities were all we needed and was made to feel welcome.
On site pub with a pool table, band some nights for entertainment and big camp fire created a good community feeling.
Fishing lake was an added feature which was popular and something extra to do.
Location is perfect to access local areas such as Abersoch etc.
We will return at some point.

Local attractions

Should you ever want to leave base camp, seaside Pwllheli (10 minutes’ drive) is the place for boat-mad folk. Here’s your chance to learn to sail a dinghy in Cardigan Bay, or take coastal cruises to spot seals, dolphins and seabirds. Back on dry land, kids can burn off energy in Dragon Raiders Paintball Park (15 minutes) or beat their personal best on go-karts at Glasfryn Parc (10 minutes). Adrenaline junkies, head to Blaenau Ffestiniog (45 minutes) to zoom over former slate mines by zip line, or test your nerve on via ferrata and seriously fast downhill mountain biking trails. If hiking is more your thing, Snowdonia National Park (30 minutes) has plenty of challenging trails, as well as easier routes suitable for all the family. For gentler pursuits, you can summit Snowdon in comfort on the Snowdon Mountain Railway (45 minutes). Or down on the coast, pretend you’re in a murder-mystery film at Italianate-style Portmeirion village (35 minutes), whose colourful streets and buildings once starred in 1960s cult classic ‘The Prisoner’.
