  • Quiet coastal campsite on the spectacular Llŷn Peninsula
  • A 10-minute drive from Abersoch; Pwllheli 20 minutes
  • Views over Cardigan Bay and direct access to the Wales Coast Path
For a low-key coastal site on the Llŷn Peninsula with spectacular views over Cardigan Bay, have a look at Cim Farm Caravan Park. There's direct access to the Wales Coast Path here, making this spot a top stop-over site for walkers and backpackers, plus a circular walk on the farm for those who are settling down for longer spells. Dogs are welcome, but please keep them on a lead to avoid spooking the sheep and cows that live in the neighbouring fields. The farm is on the edge of the village of Bwlchtocyn and about a mile from a café and sandy Machroes beach. A short distance further along the coast is Abersoch (10 minutes' drive), where there's a golf club, surf shops, a sailing school and a supermarket. Facilities on site include well-maintained toilets, hot showers (handy to have after dips in the sea), a playground, a laundry room and a freezer for ice packs. This site is high up and open to the elements, meaning it has fantastic views over to the mountains of Snowdonia National Park and makes a great place to fly a kite. After 10pm, it's quiet time, and all music must be paused.

Powered grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: Lovely little site, facilities were very clean and stocked up daily. Staff were really friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. Really helpful when needed. Pitches were flat. Very quiet site

Overall lovely, the only reason we wouldn’t stay again is because there wasn’t much I could do as I’m disabled.

Disliked: A couple of things we noticed were, there wasn’t much to do apart from walking. This was probably our own fault for not researching the area better before we arrived.
When I had a shower, I had to keep hold of the button because the water went off very quickly, showers are also quite small so as a plus size girl, I did struggle a little to get dressed afterwards.
From the photos I had hoped for a good view when we opened the back of the camper van door, however from the field we were and you had to walk to see the bay. The only view we had really was the field and other campers.

Also found there was a lack of water taps for drinking water, one in each field would be a good shout.

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: What a fantastic gem this was when we made a very last minute decision to get away for a night in the Camper. The location is absolutely stunning, surrounded by mountainous views and of course the sea. The owners, Neil and Dawn, are really friendly, accommodating & down to earth - you couldn’t ask for more. The facilities were extremely clean & although the site houses many caravans and other pitches, it doesn’t feel large, quite the opposite, warm and friendly. We spoke to many other campers who come back year on year and you can see the attraction! There’s also a circular route you can walk (@ 3 miles, which captures some extremely gorgeous views). We’ll definitely be going back, but for longer next time, no hesitation….and for the doubters out there, we’ve got high standards!

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: The view was absolutely beautiful. The campsite was peaceful despite it being so busy. The showers and the toilets were spotless and the owners were really informative and helpful. The site was close to abersoch and right next to the coastal path to walk into the town.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Liked: Friendly owner. Pitches, toilets, playground all immaculate. Lovely location 20 minutes stroll to the beach bar. Bliss.

Disliked: 10am to be off pitch is a little early, however this wasn’t aggressively enforced.

Local attractions

In the immediate surrounding area, there's Abersoch Golf Club (10 minutes' drive) if you fancy a game or two with sea views, plus top-rated local beaches for swimming, watersports and picnics like Porth Ceiriad (10 minutes) and Porth Neigwl (10 minutes), the second of which is renowned for its favourable surfing conditions. Many of these can be comfortably reached on foot via the Wales Coast Path. A little further along the peninsula, you'll come to Pwllheli, a harbour town with an attractive marina that's well worth a visit. Heading in the other direction, Criccieth Castle (30 minutes) has turrets and towers that are hard to beat – although Harlech's imposing coastal fortress (an hour) certainly gives it a run for its money. For more family-friendly days out, head to the pretty Italian-style coloured houses and cafés at Portmeirion (30 minutes), or venture out into Snowdonia National Park for mountain peaks, lakeside walks or to experience the zipwires, woodland rollercoasters and other exhilarating rides at Zip World Fforest near Betws-y-Coed (an hour and 15 minutes).
