Five spacious pitches

  • Small adults-only campsite in the village of Llanystumdwy, North Wales
  • A 15-minute drive to Snowdonia National Park; 25 minutes to Caernarfon
  • Well-maintained grass pitches and shower block; communal dining area
Family-run The Paddocks Caravan and Camping is a small and ultra-organised site with well-maintained, flat and spacious pitches in north Wales. It’s less than five minutes’ drive to the beach at Criccieth, and around half an hour to the imposing castles at Harlech and Caernarfon, making this a cracking adults-only base from which to explore the Llŷn Peninsula. It's a 10-minute trip by car to the wide, south-facing sands at Pwllheli, a former haunt of smugglers and pirates. You'll find it quite a bit calmer these days, especially if you follow the fab Llŷn Peninsula Coastal Path round the peninsula for views and wildlife and splendid sea air. Sandcastles, paddling and rockpool exploration are all there for the taking. If you’d rather ditch the car, a bus stop is five minutes’ walk away, or you can explore on two legs – perhaps a good place to start is the local village of Llanystumdwy (five minutes’ walk), as it’s the burial place of former Prime Minister David Lloyd George. You can see his grave and visit a small museum, and afterwards stroll down the banks of the scenic River Dwyfor or pop into the pub for a pint. Gleaming facilities on site include a well-lit shower block with two private bathrooms (each containing a large shower, wash-hand basin and toilet), plus a separate adjacent shower with a dressing room and a hair dryer. Nearby is a covered communal area with a table and seating, plus two washing-up sinks, a fridge-freezer, a separate drinks fridge, a microwave, toaster and a kettle. There's also a phone-charging point. Firepits and barbecues are allowed, but they must be raised off the ground and set up on one of the concrete slabs provided. Small chimineas and barbecues are available for nightly hire on site, and you can buy logs and charcoal here too. Please note that parties are not permitted – this is a quiet site.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Fantastic facilities and great location for Criccieth. We walked there and got the bus back.

Disliked: Traffic noise was really intrusive started really early in the morning and made it impossible to sleep. It may be better at the weekend as we think it was shift workers from the local laundry.

Powered grass RV or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Fantastic site, had everything you could want.

The pitches are large and as long as you are within your area can pitch which ever way suits you.

The facilities were spotless clean.

Lots of extras such as a microwave, toaster, phone charging, drinks fridge, food fridge and ice dispenser. Perfect for anyone camping without electricity.

Undercover dish washing area, that held the above extras, a long picnic bench and lots of info about the area including bus timetable.

There were eggs and milk available for purchase with ah honesty box, fire wood and fire pits available and delivered to your site if you wanted them.

The site was a 5/10 minute walk from the bus stop, we walked the coastal paths both ways and caught the bus back, which was reliable. The town and beach is about a 20 minute walk, with places to eat, drink and purchase shopping.

The hosts were very welcoming and friendly, happy to stop and chat.

If we were ever to visit north Wales again this would be the site we would book again, just a shame we are a 5 hour drive away. We have already recommended to our daughter for the summer.

Disliked: Nothing, couldn’t ask for a more perfect site.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Superb adults only, dog friendly campsite! The best facilities I have ever experienced camping. The bathrooms are more akin to Hotel or home style bathrooms, meaning your showers are excellent! The communal area had lots of free perks, such as communal kettle and toaster, washing up accessories and use of fridges and freezers. The campsite is immaculate. The owners take a lot of pride in their grass and facilities everywhere. It's great value for money. It was peaceful and in a good location for exploring the coastline - whether walking directly from the campsite or a short drive away. There is a dog friendly pub in the local village, in walking distance too. The pitches are 10m x 10m - huge! It felt like you had your own privacy from others and a pocket of beautiful space to enjoy. Finding an adults only dog friendly campsite is tricky as it is but one of this calibre is extremely rare.

Disliked: The only negative I can write is that the campsite is next to a road and depending on where your pitch is, you do hear vehicles travelling along it throughout the night. Though, the location of the campsite does suggest it could be an challenge. It wasn't heavy traffic but there was at least one passing along the road at any one time. Ear plugs worked a treat, if you're a light sleeper.

Liked: Perfect location for heading out on the motorbike, and walking the coastal path through criccieth and Porthmadoc. Owners fab, warm welcome, site is spotless with large pitches, love the combined toilet/shower facility

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: The Paddocks is a beautiful camp site with level and spacious pitches. Everything is kept tip top by Juliette and Leigh, who are both really friendly and very helpful. The facilities here are exceptional … I’ve never seen such large shower rooms (just like a hotel) and the prep area for washing up/ drinks, fridge freezer, (even eggs which can be purchased) is a great touch. The Paddocks is in a great location with plenty of great walks and beaches within easy travelling distance. Criccieth is 5 minutes down the road and there is also a lovely walk from the campsite through fields and along a river which leads to the coastal walk and Criccieth, which takes about 40 minutes.
We had such a lovely time here staying 5 nights, which gave us plenty of time to explore the area.
I would definitely recommend this site… it’s fabulous.

Disliked: Nothing
