Off to Wales to wander? Pitch up at superbly scenic Tyn Yr Onnen Farm, on the edge of Snowdonia National Park between the Moel Eilio and the Elephant Mountains (Mynydd Mawr), for a hiking holiday you won't forget. Keen-footed wayfarers of all abilities can wander hundreds of acres of heathland direct from the farm including a route right up to Snowdon's peak – although if that thought makes you pale, the Snowdon Mountain Railway with its more relaxed summit accessing is only a few miles away. Guests also travel to Tyn Yr Onnen Farm and this part of north Wales for the coastline and beaches of the Llŷn Peninsula and the Isle of Anglesey within easy driving distance, and to get down with Wales's mighty heritage at the likes of the National Slate Centre and the castles of Harlech, Caernarfon, Bangor, Beaumaris, all nearby. On site, llamas, donkeys, pigs, chickens, ducks, turkeys and newborn lambs in spring inhabit the farm for the kids to coo at: Tyn Yr Onnen is a working 180-acre sheep farm managed by the Griffiths family for over 300 years. Pitches are sheltered, with loads of room for barbecues, and campfires are allowed in one of the camping fields. The children can entertain themselves at the play area with swings, roundabouts and sandpit (parental supervision required at all times, of course), while the grownups should be chuffed at the clean and modern amenities in the refurbished toilet and shower block, with free hot showers, baby changing, disabled facilities and a utility room with washing-up area, campers' fridge and freezer, washing machines and tumble drier. There are also 22-amp electric vehicle charging points. The local village, Waunfawr, is within walking distance and has a village shop open daily, as well as a pub serving the type of good food you want after a hike. There is also a local bus service which runs between Caernarfon and Beddgelert. Please check online for time tables and fares.

This charming site boasts mountain views, perfect for exploring North Wales & Snowdonia. Guests rave about the friendly staff, cleanliness, and great facilities (hot showers included!). Liked Booked very last minute as was travelling to the area to visit Lanberris to visit the slate quarry, having previously visited the area last year, on arrival first impressions were very good, couldn't initially find reception but a quick phone call to the friendly host, became clear very quick and again first impression were so polite and welcoming was located a decent spot and shown to my pitch, and is clearly well maintained the facilities were very clean and tidy and has everything you would expect from a decent campsite including a laundry.
All round a very decent location that was good value for money in my opinion, the view well I don't think it was going to get much better to one side you are looking towards the farm and to the other you are looking at some impressive welsh country side well worth the visit and happy to find this location.

Disliked Don't think there was any could do with a shelf in the shower area, but that is at best the only niggle, hardly a dislike.

Liked This was our first time camping, honestly we couldn’t have chosen a better camp site. The best part about it, is it’s based on the farm. Waking up hearing the sheep was amazing. The donkeys and llama’s were an extra added bonus, we got to feed them some carrots which was incredible.
The site itself is extremely clean and well kept, including the toilets/showers, showers were hot which was needed in this cold weather.

Special thank you to the lovely gentlemen who manages the farm and the site. We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived, from showing us around to providing information about the farm, what’s around the local area, and things to do etc. Also just the friendly chat, which I really appreciated.

I cannot recommend Tyn-yr-Onnen Farm enough.
Absolutely loved our stay and will definitely be returning next season, this is now my go to campsite when visiting North Wales.
I really can’t wait to come back. I wish the site was open all year round, I would stay every month.

Liked Location was amazing, super peaceful. Very friendly staff and animals on site! Arrived in a very quiet week (pretty much only people there) and so could choose any pitch. No issues with bathroom cleanliness or WiFi. Bathrooms cleaned regularly and plenty to choose from. Had a map of the farm with some information about them. Had a small utility room which offered fridges, freezers, washing up bowls and washing-drying machines.

Disliked The utility room fridges were slightly grimy on the inside, though one was turned off presumably for a deep clean so probably just came before the other had been cleaned after summer season.

Liked Wonderful Experience in Nature, Despite the Storm!

Last week, I spent two unforgettable nights at this beautiful camp and was absolutely delighted! Surrounded by lush greenery and fresh air, I felt completely relaxed. The location is perfect for adventures—close to the forest for walks.

The only thing that slightly clouded the idyll was Storm Amy with its hurricane-force winds and rain, making it impossible to set up my tent. But I thank the wonderful hosts from the bottom of my heart for going out of their way to offer me a cozy wooden hut—their quick help and kindness truly touched me.

I'm definitely coming back next year—this place is irresistible! I recommend it to everyone. 🌿⛺

Liked We had a fantastic stay here on our recent camping trip. The facilities were spotless and easy to access, and the relaxed, friendly staff made us feel right at home – especially as novice campers. The pitches were lovely, and the location itself is simply astounding. A special mention has to go to the llamas and donkeys, who were an absolute delight and made the whole experience even more memorable. Couldn’t recommend it more!

The surrounding area has heaps to see and do alongside the rambles, coastlines and castles: if you get a bit stuck for choice, ask the family for their top picks. Within a short drive are Zip World in Bethesda (home to Velocity, the fastest zipline in the world and the longest in Europe), Zip World Caverns in Blaenau Ffestiniog and GreenWood Forest Park, a family adventure park in Y Felinheli. Rather conveniently, one of Wales's top attractions is less than five miles from Tyn Yr Onnen Farm, the National Slate Museum in Llanberis, where kids can get stuck into the story of the country's mining heritage amid talks and demos, quarrymen's houses and interactive play activities. Llanberis village is where many set out to climb Snowdon as the Llanberis Path begins here, winding up the least taxing route (we'll point out again that the Snowdon Mountain Railway goes to the top too). The village is also a popular place for adventurous activities like kayaking, coasteering, scuba diving, mountain biking, pony trekking and high ropes courses. Another popular pull of these parts is the Dinorwig Power Station or Electric Mountain: take an underground tour, set the kids free to play in the den, or test your wits in the Genius Corner puzzle room.
